Not a garmin zumo but as a fair weather rider, I use an ordinary Garmin sat nav in a Ram cradle with a Ram ball mount which works fine. RAM mounts not the cheapest but recommended.
https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/anybody-fitted-a-satnav-to-a-1200r-yet.45511/ Quite a few suggestions here, I used it to mount my 550 Zumo and provide power.
Totally agree. I use RamMount for both the Panigale and the Monster 1200R with a small Garmin Nuvi. Here's what I've done for the 1200R that has a steering damper which makes the installation more challenging: If you just want the solution without the methodology here's what you need and look at the photos. 1) http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-272U 2) http://www.rammount.com/part/RAP-B-201U-A 3) A Ram Mount cradle (with ball) for your device The process: My objective was to mount my unit as flush as possible and in direct line of sight without blocking the instrument display. I have tried many RamMount base pieces in various locations. On that note, 1) the four handlebar bolts cannot be used on a 1200R as they interfered with the steering damper or their use blocks the instrument view. If you own a "base" or an "S" model, then you're options has tripled. 2) The center part of the handlebar itself can't be used either for the same reasons. 3) Various clutch side bolts can be used but your unit will not be in direct line of sight. The aesthetics's is also questionable. 4) The steering damper pivot screw rotates on two "0" rings. BTW, I've tried it and for me, that's a no go. 5) This leaves us with two forward locations: a) clamping to the steering damper or b) using its right side bolt. With the exception of the Ram EZ-Mount any clamp base attached to the steering damper will elevates your unit 3"and dead center. Not good. The Ram EZ-Mount however, is very flush but is held to the steering damper by two zip ties which could break or rotate. Consequently, the steering damper's right side bolt is my preferred location as a base. I have tried a few ram ball base pieces where the best choice as previously mentioned, was this one: http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-272U Moreover, it fits right side up and upside down where the latter will position your unit 1" both forward and lower. Your preference may be determined by the size of your device. Hope this helps.
I used a RAM mount on my 1200S. Had to position it over to the side to clear the clocks, but it worked well. I ran a standard car Garmin in it, and added a 12V to USB converter which I connected into the heated grips connector behind the headstock. Space was definitely an issue, but for occasional trips it worked well.
I have previously purchased a Telferizer.com ram-ball mount for my Panigale's triple clamp. Awesome product. Do you have a link for the same for a Monster?
No sorry, I know bob personally and he made me One for my monster 1200r. Send him An email and ask him to make one like olys and he will make you one
Thanks for all thehelp, very much appreciated. I've bought the SW Motech one and have made a new mounting for the Monster. I'll post a picture....
No worries. I have a much flusher install with the RamMount products shown above. Moreover, it's readily available for all. I only asked because I did not see a Telferizer ball for Monsters, especially the R on his website. BTW, I actually like and have purchased a Telferizer stem mount ball for my Panigale. It's good for a secondary device like a camera but found a flusher option for my GPS.
