Stupid Questions Re Rear Wheel Nut On Mutley

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Soupy, Mar 7, 2019.

  1. Hi,

What size of socket do I need to remove rear wheel 2015 DVT Mutley , how much and best place to buy ?

    Thanks,

    Soupy.

  2. 55mm Bi-Hex and cheapest decent socket like a draper or similar.
Do not buy one of those aluminium dual-sided sockets that cost 5x the price and won't last more than 3 times. Waste of time and money.
You may need to get a 3/4" to 1/2" converter at the same time, but again those are cheap.

If you really want to go the whole hog, get a Clarke CEW1000 - mains powered 1000W impact gun. Best. Toy. Ever. :D

  5. Aah but I have that covered my best mate has a garage full of tools for working on cars and wagons so no issue there.
He does the mechanical work I just stand there and look pretty

  6. Don’t forget it’s a very shallow nut. A socket will have an internal chamfer making the contact patch very small. I usually pop the socket in the lathe and turn it down to make it flat.

  7. I have never found a problem using a standard socket, one merely needs to make sure that it is fully engaged and make sure that it is held on the nut with some applied force to make sure it doesn’t slip off.
