2017 Monster 1200s Jumping Out Of Gear ?

Discussion in 'Monster' started by cozmo1589, Sep 24, 2018.

  1. Hi all.

So I am experiencing my Monster 1200S jumping out of gear during downshifting. Circumstances are, while using the quick shifter to change down the box, I am finding more and more often that from 3rd and into 2nd, the bike behaves normally but can on occasion (when in 2nd for a few seconds under engine breaking) jump out of gear and into a neutral. Sods laws is it happening mid corner and I find myself having to apply brakes suddenly to scrub off speed that I was expecting the engine breaking to 2018-06-10_23-16-06.jpg care of. Any thoughts and ideas as to why this might be happening? Bike has covered just under 3k miles and has been meticulously run in and very well looked after.

  2. I have not noticed that on my bike, are you sure it's going into neutral or is the slipper clutch just slipping?

  3. Hi mate, no its definitely going into neutral or a false neutral, nothing whatsoever like a clutch slipping at all. Very disconcerting especially when mid corner or approaching a corner and expecting the bike to slow but then it doesn't

  4. Take it back to the dealer you bought it from, it’s still under warranty and jumping out of gear is not normal. Andy

  5. Make sure you are not touching the gear lever with your boot by accident. This might cause the bike to attempt a downshift but not have enough momentum to put it into the next gear.

  9. Have you tried it with the quick shift turned off ? To confirm if you have a problem with q/s or the actual gearbox

  10. No mate I haven't tried that, worth a go I guess, I'll happily try anything

  11. What was the outcome Cozmo?

  12. Reported it to dealer when it went in for its first annual service and they said they couldn't find anything wrong, after the oil change it never did it again so whether it was the service or the gearbox just bedded in better with mileage I don't know ????

  13. My quickshifter was great up the box but agricultural down the box so I rarely used it going down gears. Now bike has 6000 miles on it the quickshifter has started working well in both directions so I reckon there is probably something to be said about bedding in.
