V4 American V4r Restricted

  1. I think if you talk to your workshop manager, the Owner’s Handbook is a misprint having copied it across from the 1299. There was a workshop bulletin about 3 or 4 weeks ago for the V4/V4S that upped the running in rpm to 8000rpm for the first 600 miles and 9000rpm for the next 1000 miles. Makes the running in process much more entertaining and potentially licence losing :D Andy

  2. Sounds better! does that apply to the R though with it's 2k higher rpm limit?

  3. The V4/V4S handbook was definitely a misprint and I see no reason for the V4R handbook to be any different but do check with your dealer’s workshop. Not sure if the salesmen are aware or not. Andy

  5. So I've stolen this post from another forum. It was basically the answer I was looking for:

    -----------------------

Here's the deal. Check out this link on the US EPA site, row 78, it's the V4R. Says 153kW at 13,250 rpm. The regular V4 is 158kW at 12500.

    https://www.epa.gov/sites/production...6-present.xlsx

Ducati's site says the V4R without the Akra should be 162kW at 15,250. So it looks like the US bikes are restricted in stock form to the tune of ~12hp and ~2,000 rpm. Hopefully the up-map removes the restriction.

    https://www.ducati.com/us/en/bikes/p.../panigale-v4-r

By the way, for the regular V4/V4S, the EPA data is almost exactly the same as Ducati's published figures (without Akra).

    --------------------------

And allegedly the Australian V4R is also restricted....:bucktooth:

  6. I know California are pretty strict on all this emissions guff. France too, I think. I doubt the Up Map will bridge any performance shortfall as I think such bikes are detuned via cam profiles. It might be different nowadays, I don't know....

  7. Seems like the US version of the V4R page is also very reluctant to quote standard performance figures!! They don't quote the power figure without a side note saying (with Akrapovic Exhaust)

    UK:
    Panigale V4 R
    POWER
    221 hp (162 kW)i
    TORQUE
    112 Nm (83 lb-ft)i
    DRY WEIGHT
    172 kg (379 lb)

And also shows a graphic switching between the standard and 'race' values.

    US:
    Panigale V4 R
    PRICE
    $40,000i
    POWER
    234 hp (with Akrapovic Exhaust)i
    TORQUE
    112 Nm (83 lb-ft)i

The US graphic shows 'race' values only.

  8. They get a good pasting at the factory anyway mate :)

Also, guys saying the power is enough.. Ofcourse it is! But if you’re being sold something and you get something substantially different... I’d still be annoyed.

  9. My point exactly.

Moreover, as a law abiding customer in the US, you're gonna be pissed when a V4S leaves your R behind exiting Starbucks!

  10. Ha ha, yeah- in your jeans and t-shirt down an arrow straight freeway... Let's race! They say on YouTube  Kind of completely missing the point of a track derived superbike... But I doubt very much the V4 will drop the V4R in a drag... but not much in it either way.

Such fannies. With far too much money. I've watched this yank with a McLaren 720S. He's 100% obsessed with straight line speed- nothing else. Strange... And such a waste

  11. Interesting that they are still restricted, I know that the CARB restrictions in California used to be much more restrictive (remember the 1098/848 long exhaust cans anyone?) but since EURO 4 our emissions standards are more restrictive than the US as I understand it, hence the 959 has those exhausts over here, and the traditional ones in the states.

Either way, in 650ib's latest first ride video he is happy to rev the berries out of it still witin the first 100 or so miles so clearly a fan of the 'dyno brake-in' method! also he mentions 16,500rpm limit so perhaps his UpMap has taken the limiter off

  12. That's the fella, 650ib! I think he's just loaded and doesn't give a shit about screaming the tits off his brand new $40k bike. He doesn't radiate technical savvy in any of his vids.

  13. He does radiate cringe though!
