Effects Of Lean Fuel

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Gmiller, Mar 28, 2019.

  1. Before I buy a new coil is it a possibility that a very lean mix may throw the ignition coil sensors? The bike farts through the intakes.

  2. I doubt very much that a lean mix would affect the coil pickup sensors, seeing as how no fuel ever gets near them.

Firing in the intakes is usually fuelling particularly if it is intermittent. Electrical faults tend to be continuous.

  3. Thank you for your feedback.

  4. Bike? injected/carbs would help

  5. Fuel injected testastretta S4RS 2008.. P0351 Ignition coil A (primary secondary coil malfunction) shows every other ride, but not always. I have decided to replace the coil anyway. The bike will start and idle perfectly for a minute then slowly die. JPDiag shows co trim at -51 , if I slide this to -12 the bike picks up and idles nicely.

  6. ok, so the coil pick up is throwing the error code. replace this first then. good move

  7. Thank you for the feedback

  8. running lean could throw up random multiple misfire errors due to the unburnt oxygen in the exhaust being monitored by the lamda sensor and read by the ecu as a misfire.
but yer error is v,specific. almost deffo an ignition failure rather than a fuel or fuel pressure fault.

  9. probably. :upyeah:

  10. If it starts fine and idles from cold and then dies, could it be temp sensor related?

  11. they seem to use a similar system to fiat which in turn would use the air temp sensor for start up. i have changed those for that symptom.

  12. Thank you members, I have noted all your suggestions. I adjusted the trim with JPdiag this afternoon and the bike is idling nicely. I know a man locally with a co gadget. I'll be knocking on his for this weekend!
