Fairing bolt replacements...

  1. I've had to take the fairing off to get to the radiator which has sprung a leak and I have to say the fairing panels were a complete bastard nightmare as the original fasteners were corroded.

Do you have a suggestion for some far better fasteners that will allow far easier removal without any mods to the panel!

    Pictures would be appreciated.

  3. I've been contemplating these kits too.

Are they difficult to fit? I saw somewhere about having to enlarge the holes in the fairing etc. and not sure I want to go down this road but I love the idea of having a quick release fairing to get into things for cleaning and stuff.

  5. I've fitted a few Dzus kits to 848/1098 and tbh, they've been ok. As mentioned, I wouldn't use a Dzus on the underside, and the kits I did had D-rings so the two screws that fit in the oil cooler mounting needed to remain. If you use stock dzus, ala 996 size then you'll need to drill fairing holes. The kits I've done used 6mm (?) and fitted ok. The four frame tabs either side the rear cylinder needed opening out though.
IMO, if the screws are refitted with anti seize then they aren't geneally an issue and i prefer them to dzus if for nothing else than appearance.
With a little practice, it takes no time to whip the fairings off. You don't need to remove the lowers seperately, you still have to remove the ones under the headlight and pop the clips.
I'd steer clear of any Dzus in alloy. The metal recepticle clips will eat them after a couple of fittings making them useless...
