hello all, got a 97 916 and my god does it have a flat spot, more noticeable at 6-7k revs but the acceleration is erratic all the way through range about 5k. Initially off the line up to 4-5 it is clean and smooth and idles well. The bike has termis with correct ecu I believe. I got this bike last year. Included was the original exhaust and factory Ecu. Can anyone shed any light on this. Thanks.
Was serviced just as I had it an yes always had it. Seems to get worse the hotter the bike gets but that may be in my head. Wouldn’t the map already be correct for the termis even if some improvement could be achieved with remapping?. The flat spot is massive. It’s a noticeable brick wall of power loss then is trying to accelerate but jumps up and down erratically. Fuel and air filter are only a few hundred miles old.
I had a worn track on a tps fitted to a 996. It has a flat spot only during a certain rev range. Changing it cured the fault. They are the marelli pf08 or similar
Yeah should check both TPS and plugs to start ticking things off the list before I spend on remap or new Ecu etc. Thanks final-edition I’ll look into it too. Thought it may be a common symptom of something definitive.
I would try the original chip in the ecu.See if it runs better, then get a proper chip ,if it does.I once had a performance chip off ebay that wouldnt let the motor rev out.
The chip is in the ecu, there's a large rubber bung on the top, remove it and the chip is underneath. Steve
My 916 had the same fault. I replaced the fuel filter but noticed during the process one of the fuel pump pipes were split. Replaced filter and rubber pipe and it's been alright since. When you say the hotter it gets, could it be the longer you ride and the petrol gets lower in the tank, below the split? That's what happened to me. Run the petrol down and look inside the tank for air bubbles.
you beat me to it! if it is this, the hose that's split is under pressure so will show symptoms regardless of tank filled level.
Same problem with mine; very slightly split fuel pipes so that the symptoms such as misfiing, lack of power, etc. only really showed up when trying to accelerate. Diagnosed and fixed in a jiffy by MD Racing.
Great thanks. I know what I’m doing weekend. I also had to glue a lot of my air ducts as broken fastener points where they clasp to air box. Crazy design.
So removed pump and fuel filter assembly this morning. All fuel pipes look like new, no split or damage, will change anyway but I don’t think that’s the problem. New fuel filter ordered and ring, could the power loss be only fuel filter? I can’t find in the history if it’s ever been changed specifically or not. Says 1996 on the side but who knows.
