Alternator Ac Output Spec

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Kitjv, Apr 29, 2019.

  1. Before I install a new regulator/rectifier on my 1993 Ducati 900 Superlight, I ran a few quick tests on my alternator. The reading for the AC output across the 2 yellow wires was 30VAC @3,000 rpms & 40VAC @4,000 rpms. Can anyone tell me if this output is consistent with factory specs?

    Thank you so much.

  2. @Kitjv I think the system on the Ducati's of that era are the same as Guzzi I have (an 1100i.e. Sport) and the reg outputs quoted for it are as follows

    1000 15
    3000 40
    6000 80

Perhaps wait to see if anybody with a Ducati manual for the bike comes along to confirm.

If my figures are correct it's down a bit but I think Ok
Probably the permanent magnet which excites the rotor is loosing some of its Ooomph.

  3. Thank you. I just want to be reasonably confident that this is not indicative of an impending stator failure. Admittedly, diagnosing electrical issues is not my forte. So I thank everyone for their help.
