1299 Qs On Upshifts

  1. Try and explain this the best I can.

Sometimes on upshifts it’s a bit jerky, so say you’re flat out in 4th or 5th and then go for the next gear it cuts the power and doesn’t select the next gear and is jerky and feels awful, probably a crap description but why does it do that and how can you solve it?

Does fitting the translogic shifter stop this? I thought the lever position was playing a part in it as it may have been a tad too high but it doesn’t seem to have worked, always seems to happen in the higher gears and at pace. I might lower the lever height again so the upshifts are better, hopefully.

  2. I've currently got the exact same thing on my 1299!
My first QS failed towards the end of last year, and was replaced under warranty. The first QS worked perfectly through all the gears for nearly 2 years, but then started playing up and decayed slowly over a month until it broke completely.

That was replaced under warranty at the end of last year for another unit. However, this new QS unit is doing what you've described. I noticed it on the first trackday after getting it fitted, down the back straight at Donington, at full throttle. Felt like it nearly threw me out of my seat as I wasn't expecting it. It's like an extended delay in changing gear.

Now every time I'm at pace and change gear, usually the higher gears as you've mentioned, I have that uncomfortable feeling it's going to delay.

I've already told the Duc Service dept that I'm having trouble with this new QS and they've ordered me a newer one. I'll let you know how that goes once fitted.
They said there have been quite a few revisions of the QS.

  3. Mine was replaced about 3 weeks ago with the new revised one as it had actually stopped working on upshifts. When it was working on the old one it did as above on the odd occasion. So the new one for me is just the same, it’s frustrating.

  4. I had this with my standard qs. Replaced with a translogic unit earlier this year and its now much better and more reliable..I dont feel quite so apprehensive about wot upshifts anymore..

It's still not seamless though. I'd like it to be quicker still when really gunning it but no way to change the speed unfortunately. That's me being picky though. It's a good system.

  5. How much was your translogic unit and is it a simple "plug and play"

  6. Yes it was a very simple plug and play.

Think I paid around £240 for it.

  7. ok great
Ok great I'll take a look at getting one. my QS has always had the issue of done the big hesitation/not engaging 6th when upshifting at speed from 5th.

it happens very rarely , often on a circuit, and I put it down to my own sloppy gear change. A mechanic recently suggested that I move the gear shift down slightly so it gets more of a hook up - I suppose I should try that first

  8. I tried that with moving it down, I initially thought it was better but clearly not, will try moving it down a bit more.

  9. i put my lever down so low once it didnt have any room to go down and engage 1st, ive gone translogic but still not totally happy, thinking of aftermarket rearsets to reduce the throw
