Arai Rx-7v Vs Shoei Gt-air

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by dubcat, Apr 29, 2019.

  1. i need a new helmet. I was going to get another GT-Air as there are good deals on with the II have arrived and not having anything I need. I noticed there’s some good deals on the arai RX-7v though. Is it a much better helmet? In what way is it better? I’d miss the integrated sun shield which the gt-air has.

  2. If it fits and it’s comfortable, buy it

  3. hi there, i have chosen shoei’s or other brands with drop downs for years.

Being a bit of a show off, i do like a good paintjob and liked the Vinales RX7 which imspotted at Helmet City. When i tried it i was blown away , as it was soooooo comfortable. The materials used in the interior are very good.

On the road has been the same experience, very comfortable, and far superior air flow to other lids.

I bought a shoei dark visor with pinlock, and have not missed the drop down at all. the clear one is a doddle to fit if needed.

    Go RX7! Good luck

  4. Cool! I’ll go try one :) Which one did you get? Loads seem to be called vinales lol :)

  5. I had a Shoei years ago then tried on a Rx7, it was at this point i realised how badly the Shoei fitted my head. Had an AGV prior to that. The Rx7 was like a glove. One buying tip, the Rx7 cheek pads seem snug at first but will give a little with time and mould well.
Putting fitting aside, the RX7 is a fantastic lid - on my 2nd, will probably be my 3rd soon.
Everyone’s head is different- go try some on - good luck!

  6. One other thing, if you have a fat/big nose the Arai nose ‘band’ will be too tight. Shoei do a generic replacement for their helmets with fit the Arai lids.
The Arai is a firmer plastic with no ‘give’, the Shoei is a leather looking item which is soft on the schnoz.

  7. i had the old rx7 and now have the gt air... the drop down sun visor is the only thing id miss....
the rx7 is imo far superior in build and quality just need to carry shades for when its sunny or a tinted visor
as said above though dont limit yourself try lots

  8. Whatever fits best tbh

Arai are ‘supposed to be’ the safest you can buy.

But 2019 sharp tests show both of those Arai and Shoei being 5/5 in their tests.

  9. I found if you are a Shoei head, you are unlikely to be comfortable in an Arai. Andy

  10. Is the correct answer.

Try a few on and like I said before if they fit, feel good and comfortable and you like the style then buy it.

All lids on the UK market will have passed the safety requirements.
