1200s D Q S Advice - Thoughts

  1. Ive not had a quickshifter before and starting to think what’s the point...I find, after 30 years of riding not using the clutch and dropping the throttle Very strange.

Down shifting is always a bit clunky and going up is either seamless or again a bit clunky.

From 5th to 6th it always feels like it changes gear twice. I always get a - sign when trying to find neutral.

Will it get better with mileage, only done 250 miles so far ? Any advantage of turning it off until the first service done ? It obviously works better with more revs..

    Any advice ?

  2. I disabled mine in touring mode as I can change faster and smoother without it, it does not get any better with mileage, it's just too slow. I tried the new 1260 multistrada on an open day a couple of weeks ago and that is a much better set up, all gears changed cleanly, I just think the 1200s has been fitted as an afterthought. Just go into your setup program and turn it off.

  3. I too tried this on the new 1260 Multi and it worked quite well, but needed a good 'positive' movement of the gear pedal to make it work well.

My dealer always told me that the older engines and gearbox (like my 1200R) where never designed to have the Quick Shifters, so I never felt like I missed out.

  4. My worry would be that if the changes were a bit clunky was it damaging the gearbox long term .

  5. Bit confused as thread says 1200s quickshift. They never had quickshift. Only aftermarket retro fit yourself but with 250 miles on clock do you mean you have a 1260. If not & its aftermarket fitted they only do up shift not down shift. If that's what your doing you will trash the box in no time. If however it's the 1260 the gearbox will get easier after 5 or 600 miles.

  6. The Monster 1200S has DQS which is the ( my ) bike I’m referring to......not a 1260 Multistrada.

  7. Well that's twice tonight I have fecked up. I am in fuertoventura half pissed though so that's my excuse. & it ain't raining here.

  8. Mine has the DQS and it doesn't work as well as the one on the Supersport S.
It does take some getting used to, I find mine quite useful....

  9. Had a 1200S with a qs on loan for a week, couldn’t see the point on the road, very clunky

  10. My 2017 1200s has always been super smooth up the box and clunky down the box until now. It has 6000 miles up now and finally its smoothed out down the box. Took longer than I expected but definitely better with more miles on it.
