848 Weird Question. Rsv Mille Wheel With 848 Forks Possible?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Estranged, May 29, 2019.

  1. I've got an 1999 aprilia rsv that's been in storage for about 3 years.
Pulled it out over the weekend and one of the forks is badly pitted.
I've basically got an 848 front end sitting indoors and was wondering if the wheel from the aprilia would fit.
The only thing I can think of is if they're different widths?

  2. Some things that may or may not apply
    Spindle sizes..length and diameter
    Lengths
    Fork tube dia..yoke sizes
Yoke stem sizes if swapping yokes
    Caliper mount spacing
    Mudgaurd mounts
    Disc & caliper offsets
    Wheel spacers
    Speedo drive
    Plus loads more..

  3. Luckily i've already got the spacers for the brake discs/calipers offset.
I'm certain that the yokes/forks diameter are the same. The spare mille top yoke fits at least.
Speedo pickup is on the rear wheel.
Mudguard mounting is different, so would need to pick up a cheap one.

I forgot about axle diameter... Any idea if I can find details on wheel bearings, if that'll help?

  4. You also have to factor the distance between the yoke fork mount centres.

Look at skf or rhp for bearing info.
    Simply bearings also has info

  5. Whatever bearings you use, you will need ones with 2RS C3 prefix.

  6. Is that distance between the points on each yoke or between top and bottom yoke?

I found this listing on ebay that says the bearings are compatible between the aprilia and ducati, so i'm assuming the axle diameters are the same?

My head's not quite with it at the moment so I just wanna check these possibly odvious things

  7. Yes the fork width, centre to centre.

Ducati are 25mm dia, I guess aprilia are too. I made a spindle for @doogalman to use aprilia forks with Ducati wheel.
It had to be bespoke to his measurements. 25mm bearing dia.

  8. I like a challenge just for the sake of it..I would just get the fork repaired.

  9. Means spending money I don't have though.
If I had to take the fork off to repair it I thought I might as well try the ducati setup.
At the moment it's either back in "storage" until I get the money to sort it or swap the forks
