1200 Abs Error - Front Pressure Sensor?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by PK1, May 31, 2019.

  1. Hey guys,

Before anyone says "use the search function" Ive done that with nil result.

My bike, 2013 ABS has been getting the 'ERROR - ABS" message coming up at intermittent times over the last 18mths. Ive checked the wire loom above where the front ABS wheel sensor plugs in and that seems fine. I've changed the front ABS wheel sensor with a second hand one (dont know how many kms that one had on it) and it was ok for about 3000km before it threw up another ABS error. Its been to the Ducati mechanics a number of times with this issue but they haven't been able to find the fault, except the last time the diagnostic machine apparently read a code of "Front Pressure Sensor" error.

Does anyone know what a "Front Pressure Sensor" error is?

  2. a pressure sensor error on a vehicle means you need a new ABS pump.
for the life of me i cant mind if you can just change the control unit that bolts on to the Block or not. its been a while.

  3. in modern vehicles the brake pressure sensor is normally located within the ABS pump and cannot be replaced separately from the ABS pump. Failure of the Brake Pressure sensor is very common for vehicles fitted with the ATE MK60 ABS system.

  4. Thanks for the reply finm. I was frightened it may be the ABS pump. I think the system the 2013 Multis have is a Bosch 9ME.

  5. The pressure sensors are in the pump and it's not a serviceable unit. The sensor readings can be read with the diagnostics in real time. A failure usually comes up with a negative pressure reading on the relevant sensor. It sounds like you'll need a new pump...

  6. Thanks nelly......Im fast coming to that conclusion. Bugger!!

  7. yip. it looks like you are gonna have to get your wallet out. i think it would be safe enough to go down the used route. its the first pressure sensor error fault i have seen on here. i have in the past changed just part of the ABS unit for this fault. i just cant remember if it was the Block, or the ECU. nowadays i just send the unit away for repair/exchange.

  8. Loads for sale on fleebay cheaper to replace the unit

  9. a wee bit of useful info. maybe. several years back i had a spate of pressure sensor errors in for repair across several different manufacturers. none since. over the last few months i have seen a few with "pump blocked" errors. all on cars around 10-12 years old and driven by older drivers. the error appears to happen after the customer has had to brake hard.
i'm think the pumps are seizing due to lack of use.
maybe worth while getting that pump working every once in a while might save you a few bob down the line.

  10. Thanks finm. I'd actually heard that it doesnt hurt to active the ABS every now and again too. A Duc mech told me that it can be caused by old brake fluid (ie not changed every 12mths) "crystallising"......have you very heard of that?

  11. no, i hadn't. but knowing how brake fluid loves to absorb moisture then we put it in contact with moving parts. i can see how they go wrong. tho tbh, v,rarely.

  12. Yes. ...I agree. The mysteries of brakes and sensors!! Thanks for your advice!
