Monster tyre advice

  1. I've only ever really put super sticky tyres on sports bikes so I'm not too clued up on getting something which gives the best of all worlds.

My 1100s monster will need some new rubber soon. Planning to either do it just before heading off to the TT or staight away afterwards dependant on the weather and miles I can do before end of may. The bt016 hyper sports that are fitted I think are rubbish. Had them on my last monster and thought the same. Why do they come as standard fit?

Anyway, I use my monster for fast road , some longer distances, and some two up riding. So supercorsa and similiar are no good. Don't want to buy something too hard, as like I said I love corners and seem to be using this monster more than the 848 at the moment. But also don't want a tyre that will be bald in 2k miles.

My ideas are Rosso corsa, Rosso II, or maybe pilot power 2 ct?

Any advice is really appreciated ?

  2. Out of those you mention, based on how Pirelli market the Rosso II and it being their latest tyre to benefit from all the tech, I'd go with Rosso II.

Alternatively, Dunlop SportMaxes are superb - durable, heat up quickly on normal roads, excellent in wet conditions, and will also do the occasional trackday if you are so inclined.

  3. Hi d8mok, when are you looking to put these tyres on? I'm having some Rosso II put on my monster tomoro so I can let you know how they feel

  4. I'm switching to Rosso II's on mine. Heard good things about them. It was either try those or go for BT16's which I ran on my 1098 with great results and mileage.

  5. Thanks for replies.

Rosso II seem like they get good reviews.

Never considered Dunlop to be honest.

I'm probably gonna be getting some sorted within the next month or so. Mine have some meat left still , but dependant on weather how long they last time wise.

Yeh if both of you can let me know what you think of Rosso II that'd be good

  6. Rosso II's have £25 money back at the moment too.

    No brainer?

  7. Hi all, finally got logged back in after the shut down. When I got my 796 it came with Rosso's which I munched through in abou 2500 miles, then I got Rosso 2's which felt about the same and they lasted about the same, when it was time to replace them I went for Road Angles and I think they are a much better choice for the Monster. The Rosso's are great on smooth roads and on track but you really feel every bump, the Angels are fatter through the middle with deeper tred, they soak up the bumps a bit more and should last at least twice as long as the Rosso's, they also feel very stable and for public roads the cornering ability is more than enough. There are plenty of other sport touring tyres out there and I reckon they make much more sense for general/mixed use.
