..but there's been another fatality near to where I live involving a motorcyclist and bus. This is the second this year (near to where I live, that is). No details of the first tragedy have ever been released detailing what happened, nor do I suspect, will any be released of today's terrible news. Is it normal Police procedure to keep these awful events out of the public eye? By that, I mean, do we know if it was the rider's fault? The driver? Something else entirely that caused the accident? No one (other than the immediate family, I have to assume) knows what happened. I feel terrible about using such upsetting news like this, but I want to pose the question: is it not in the interest of all us to know? So we can adapt our riding accordingly? Would we ride any safer if we knew it was because of this, or because of that? Should we avoid a particular road due to bad lighting or potholes?
There is sure to be a Coroner's inquest, and that is when the information about what happened, and any consequences, advice, blame, etc., will become clear. It'll probably be widely reported locally, and maybe nationally, at that time. If the events only happened yesterday it is too soon for investigations to have borne fruit.
The first tragedy I mention happened in Feb, I think, and still nothing in the press about that. It's not something I want to read - ever - but as I say, perhaps in the interest of the rest of us out there, it may be beneficial that we know what happened. The other one I mentioned only happened this morning. I feel sick thinking it was maybe one of the riders that passed me.
Bikes are dangerous, bikers represent a very small amount of road users for a reason..it’s dangerous, it’s also invigorating or not if you are only using a bike to get to work ....but bikes are dangerous, no other way of putting it, if you fall off a bike and don’t hit anything or nothing hits you then someone is smiling down on you, but let’s face it usually you hit something or something hits you, I bet most bikers know someone who has either been killed or been badly hurt on a bike. Terrible tragedies you refer to without a doubt, but it is a risk we all take every trip, the best rider can have a mechanical or tyre issue mid corner, every time the air ambulance goes over my house on a summer evening it’s coming from north of Leeds ie the dales I think biker on board and yes probably I’m wrong but it’s how I think as heaps of bike accidents in the dales. Let’s just hope the people riding the bikes were happy and not just riding because they had to, I always had the attitude of I’m happy on a bike I understand and accept the risks, when that is not the case need to stop riding bikes. Most accidents are on familiar roads, the small circuit you have that you go faster and faster on but then one day a milk tanker is round the blind bend..yes it happened but my mate clipped it he got away with it, or the two lads on fire blades doing the usual racing on familiar roads up here near pool in wharfedale yet another tanker pulled out of a farm killed them both instantly, the lad who clipped the tanker sold his 916 replaced with a fj I think ended up under a 4x4 just past the small bridge that he always went fast over he survived that too via intensive care, my mate and his pillion on the driveway of billing aquadrome Northampton killed under a van yes it was a longtime ago....I put my gsxr into a dry stone wall on a familiar road I always went faster and faster on near the sun inn above otley ...my point? Respect familiar roads as gravel appears or horses shit on your line, or tractors appear etc etc expect the unexpected...no medals just get home safe I’ve seen more than once the devastation of fatalities on people but also the terrible injuries that seem to get overlooked but outnumber fatalities massively, anyone who goes to squires will be familiar with the common sight of a poster on the board regarding an upcoming or just been funeral. Rip to these recent incidents fella, tragic horrible news....the above is just an opinion I’m sure holes can be picked criticism placed etc I have no facts to back anything up just some thoughts, and hopefully I am pointing things out as I think some people on here could benefit from a bit of experience been passed on.
Coroners Courts do not apportion blame for fatalities to individual people. But they may have something to say about hazardous structures, rules, practices, roads, occupations, etc. I meant "blame" in this general sense.
It seems that, as expected, the coroner has had something to say about the Security Services, those in charge of the bridge itself, and the family of an attacker - as well as blaming the attackers, obviously.
