Just a quick one to say that yesterday I discovered the Calimoto app, which is designed for navigating you on twisty routes. I'm not in any way affiliated with the app, but even for the free version it's really good. You can just do basic navigation to a set destination, and it will create a nice twisty route. I did this yesterday and rode on some great roads near to me that I'd never seen before. It also has a function where you tell it which direction you want to go in and how far you want to ride, and it creates a twisty route for you. Very cool! It's got a load of features like it measures your top speed, highest acceleration and deceleration, plus things like highest and lowest points on your trip (elevation, as opposed to your mood!), and there is a premium version which does stuff like lean angle, and allows you to do more customising of the route. The premium version is pretty expensive - a bit prohibitively so in my opinion. But...it's a really cool app. Well worth a look if you fancy riding some different roads, or just want to head out for a random blast and are happy to let the app take care of navigation for you.
Thanks for this! I've using the Winding Road option on the old TomTom iPhone app for donkeys years and it's worked great but that app is due to be retired soon so need an alternative. Best Biking Roads (BBR) is great too but lacks the point-to-point navigation abilities.
Seems like if you're regularly doing a similar route then it'll just keep coming up with the same one. But for new destinations it's a good way to easily come up with an interesting route and avoid the boring and busy trunk routes. I've also found that if you want to save some time you can just ignore the directions, and join the suggested route later, and it doesn't get in a hissy.
