Hi, Just had a full desmo service for my 1199. It’s only done 9,000 miles since new and has always been serviced correctly. Anyway 100 miles after the desmo service and it’s sprung a leak. Whilst trying to find the location of the leak I also noticed that the oil has been overfilled so it’s over the top of the optic when level!!! The desmo service was completed by a main dealer. Both the cam and valve seals now look like they’re leaking.... interested to know if anyone has seen this happen! Starter motor was covered in oil.
just take it back as it is and request an explanation.. it may be a mistake by a trainee etc, so give them the opportunity to make it right.
Doesn’t help that I was riding out to Assen to the MotoGP so I’ve lost the tunnel, hotel and tickets I’ll call them Monday and see what they have to say. Gutted. I’m guessing that overfilling the oil (service sheet shows 3.8 litres) could have caused a seal to blow with the excess pressure?! All the services I’ve had previously shows 3.3 litres and according to the manual it’s 3.7 litre capacity. I’ve read on forums that the 1199 should only ever be filled to 3.5?
yip, i'v had to fix an oil leak after a desmo service. i found a bolt missing on the vertical cylinder and loos bolts on the horizontal.
Imho 0.3l of oil shouldn't cause any excess pressure. Isn't there a particular order and torque specified by Ducati when tightening the head bolts? Think the issue would be around there...
Ok thanks! Looking at this picture there looks like there’s a bolt missing from a header and also should that gasket protrude out so far?!?
