ECU keeps forgetting codes

  1. My hypermotard wouldn't start, when I took it to the garage they said that the electronic code and mechanical code had been wiped from the ECU. They re-entered them and the bike started but after about 200 miles the ECU seems to have forgotten the codes again. It's back at the garage having the codes re-entered but they don't know why it happened again!

Has any one had this problem or know why it's happened ?

  2. As far as I know the codes are to by-pass the immobiliser system . You would only need these if you we're trying to start the bike without the proper keys . I would check out the antenna first , as this reads the code in the chip in the key . Hope this helps.

  3. As said above the input of the code is a temporary bypass of the immobiliser. On your bike the actual immobiliser sits within the dash. The antenna is a good call as this has been problematic on the 1098's due to water ingress. However, this was normally together with a fault code. Worth a check though. As the ECU is not coded on your bike then it can be tested by fitting on another HM to see if it functions correctly. This may help pinpoint the cause and eliminate the ECU from the equation.

  4. Cheers gents.

Tried all that, still no luck!

Its been at the mechanics now for 8 weeks and he can't work out what's wrong with it. At first when hooked up to the diagnostic software he could turn the immobiliser off and start the engine, however when disconnected the bike would still run, but once stopped it would not start again. At this stage there was no fault codes on the dash. After a bit of poking about 3 fault codes came up, air temp, engine temp and exhaust solenoid. He strip the solenoid and sorted that, it now just shows the 2 temp codes which he has checked and they are working.

He has now conceded defeat and has recommend I take it to motorapido in Winchester.

Can anyone help before I send it on a 105 mile journey to get fixed!!

Also as it is not a red key system but a twin code system, if it is the ECU is at as simple as just getting a new one and entering the 2 codes?
