Recently in here we heard one the the best known Pikes Peak motorcycles racers Carlin Dunne had lost his life on the Pikes Peak hill climb race. To understand the obsession I had a look at a few of the vids and one that stood out was Sebastian Loeb in 2013 where he broke the record. When you look at the hill climb, you can see the rate of ascent in the top right but also just how much of the hillclimb has no run off and where that happens, just how much of it is just sheer drops.
My mate Neal raced there on an 848 in 2016 (I think) and was fastest Brit. He was supposed to go back again the next year but they changed the rules to one-piece bars. The next year he broke his ankle and is still recovering. Now they say they're not going to run it anymore!
Isn't it a review on the motorcycle programme, with time out for 2020 during which time safety is to be reviewed? Bikes have not run every year at PP I believe and there have been breaks previously. Let's hope that there is a path to get the bikes back up there.
There was a long break previously, due to safety. IIRC they have never lost a driver but plenty of riders. Ducati worked hard to get bikes back in the competition.
