Hello everyone! So, yesterday I was riding straight through the heatwave in Germany (literally boiling), and when I stopped for some water I noticed this thing (see the picture). A sort of greasy thing on either sides of the rear tyre (which is basically brand new), which I could also feel just behind the rear brake pedal (and being on both sides of the tyre seems unlikely to be brake fluid). Doesn’t look like oil colour to me, but I’m pretty useless when it comes to technical stuff. The oil and filter have just been changed by a dealer who I trust a lot, so I doubt he’s messed up. Could it be just the stupid amount of heat the bike has been experiencing? Any help/suggestions/experiences with this, please? Thank you all
Thanks! What do you think it is? It’s not the “greasy stuff” from new tyres, since it wasn’t there before
Is it tacky/sticky when touched? it looks like tar which would make sense when as you said, it's v hot in Germany and some of the roads are melting
Hi I also have like a greasy/tar(really sticky and black in colour) substance on my bike dripping onto my exhaust only on the left side , there weather in the uk has not been hot this weekend . I only collected the bike this weekend and noticed when I pulled over !
Just to let you know that in my case it was some coolant. The reservoir had a bit too much in it, and riding in 40 degrees, with the bike stupidly hot, didn’t help. Maybe check the level of your coolant, it could be the same issue as mine, especially if the bike got hot!
That’s what I was thinking ..... surely the previous owner hadn’t greased it up that much , also you would think as it’s just been serviced they would notice that also
Yeah. Get used to it, there’s no way you will be able to keep that bit of the bike sparkly, unless you run with your chain dry (which I wouldn’t recommend) ha!
