Anyone done an 848 Belt change - tips before I start !!!

  1. As the title says, I am going to change the belts on my 848. Watched the very good 916 videos and the USA 999 video. Is the 848 job very similar to the 999 or is there anything different. Local tech says there are no marks on the cam pulleys so you need to just line up the crank and crankcase marks at tdc then mark the belts. Thought there would be some reference on both the vertical and horizontal cylinders to show that everything is lined up ? I know there are dots stamped on the pulleys but they do not appear to be used for this, maybe cam timing ? Any advice appreciated.

  3. Well here I am with the belt covers off my 999S and had intended to use the 90deg twist method for belt tensioning but thought I would check out the sonic method by downloading sw and getting a mic. The problem is that I have failed to download any of the sw links posted on various threads so what am I doing wrong? My computer runs Windows Vista and I don't have a suitable phone to download an app. Any help would be appreciated.

  4. Panic over lads. I've managed to download the French sw which Crystal John is using in his thread on this subject and the responses to his thread are just what I need.

  5. I'm going to pop my belts cherry later this year.....So expect questions!

  6. I use a guitar tuner app in autotune mode on my Android phone to tension the belts on my ST4s. Works a treat.
