1200 DVT Give Engine Guards - Problem Under Heavy Braking

  1. Has anyone fitted the Givi TN7406 engine bars to their DVT? I did - it was a bit fiddly, but got there - really pleased, until... under heavy braking, the front wheel actually makes contact with the cross-bar in front of the radiator. Despite this having a bend to avoid this. I've re-visited the installation and can see no other way I could have fitted it, so... is it me, is it the bars, or is it the bike? Any ideas?

  3. Are your forks leaking oil? Stiffen it up? Shouldn't be plunging under hard breaking!
     
  4. Have you set the fork preload?

    Dont have the bars - but my forks travel maybe 120mm to 130mm max

    DVT S with 7 turns of preload on forks.
     
  5. I've got the same bars and I can assure you there's no way the wheel should hit it ... Get the manual out and get the shocks set up as factory and go from there.
     
  6. Hi, I had a similar case when fully loaded on a trip, the fender extension got caught up on the crash bar and locked the steering, I set up the right hand fork at sixteen turns in,(clockwise) it should be at ten turns in from the factory, this setup works for me, I hope this helps buddy
     
  7. surprising responses all seem to ignore one thing, there should be no contact throughout the full fork travel from top out to bottom out. These bars would be a poor design if contact is made under any circumstance.

  8. I just checked mine out of curiosity ... There's no way anything should hit the bar. You sure you have it fitted correctly ? ... Post up a pic if you can.
     
  9. I just installed and had the same issue! They have a new version (TN7406B) which has the crossbar corrected. Project fail.

  11. I did this to death on another thread. Givi told me to fuck off. I removed the centre section to stop this happening. Anyone who says stiffen your front end up is talking bollocks. I did a lot of suspension tuning & this kept happening. Give want feckin shooting for this but instead turned a blind eye . Radiator damage due to Givi.jpg
     
  12. Just to add I did try it in the other position too but still caught the fender. Givi says, in the instructions it says to remove the rear of the mudguard/ fender. It does not say in any part to refix the rear edge of the mudguard. Basiacally saying make your bike substandard & all will be well. Bastards.
     
  13. Check this picture out. I believe it’s the Ducati bar, or whoever makes it for Ducati. It was on the bike when I bought it.

    Obviously designed so this problem doesn’t occur.

    The Givi engine bar sounds like a death trap to me. You’re not the first one to report it.

  14. Just checked my Enduro setup - there is definitely something seriously askew with those Givi installations? Get them off before you kill yourselves!

    It looks to me like you have modified it to create clearance, or is it a different make and modified like that to start with ?
     
  17. I think your mudguard extender is fitted incorrectly. Mine sits a lot flusher to the wheel.

    Mine doesn't have any hose sticking out either, they should be routed between the fixing point and a divider on the part.

    Having removed mine over the weekend to fit a new mudguard, I could see how it would be easy to get it wrong.

    I'd check that before anything else.

  19. 1st picture is what was advertised on ebay when I bought them. 2nd is what came & totally different size hoop. This is what I have had to revert to since Give told me they were correct & to leave the rear hugger off.

  20. See the last pic were the hugger had hooked over the crossbar & flattened the lower row of cooling fins on the rad. Now the hugger is damaged & sticks out like a ducks arse. I had many e-mails going back & forth with Givi. They would not acknowledge the photo in the ad was different to what I received. My rear hugger was on the bike from new. Why should you have to make your bike sub standard to fit some crash bars, when everyone elses fit fine.
