748 Quick release fuel connector thread type

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by marc.w, Apr 11, 2013.

  1. I have managed to destroy the thread in one of the holes that take the quick release fuel couplings, Does anyone know what thread is used as I have read conflicting forum posts, some claiming it's metric, others NPT and some more saying it's BSP. confused.com :-( Many thanks

  2. Most definitely 1/4" NPT

  3. Thank you that's great, and I already have one of those taps... result! :)

  4. NPT threads, get them from Tom Parker; Tom Parker Ltd, Preston: Hydraulic Fittings, Pneumatic Fittings, John Guest Speedfit and Hydraulic Hose but be sure to request the Viton 'O' rings for both male and female fittings as the standard fittings do not have Viton and whilst the external ones are easy to swap the internal ones on the female fitting are not so simple as you have to remove them from the tank to do so. Non Viton 'O' rings in the female connectors will swell and can block the fuel flow causing a breakdown and a difficult to diagnose problem, at least it did for me.

  5. Thank you. That was perfect timing, I was just browsing the Tom Parker site and looking at the fuel line couplings section but they only had BSPT threads, I guess I better speak to them and tell them what I need there seems so many to choose from.

  6. The part you need will have a 'v' suffix to denote Viton, if not ask them for separate 'O' rings and swap them before you fit them to the tank. Download the data sheet from the website and the NPT version is in there but the Viton is not generally offered as standard. I originally bought mine from a US supplier and then had the 'O' ring problem. In diagnosing/fixing I managed to damage one of the connectors and got a replacement from Tom Parkers but they only had the Buna 'O' ring part so sent me some spare 'O' rings to swap over - it's easy enough to do but must be done from the inside. Part nos. are; Female tank fitting cMCD10-04v and male pipe fitting cLCD230-06v.
