1200 DVT Is Hands Free Unit A Straight Swap?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Rover, Jan 7, 2020.

  1. Does anyone know that or done themselves?
The issue I had few months back and thought it was the RH switch (well, it run well for 3months after replacing it) just started again, bike cutting out with no warning but this time the emergency switch (the hands free unit under the black cover) is not working at all. Push that button to start with the PIN and nothing happens, so I think it's gone at once now.
Thinking of replacing it with a second hand from ebay just for testing it but also only if it is a straight swap, I mean no need to start a conversation with the bloody software saying. "Hi your majesty, king of this bike life, here it is a new hands free unit, can I plug it into your ass and make it work, please?"

  2. I think this is one for the dealers for a definitive answer, but I think it is the ECU and Display that are coded, not the hands free unit.

First thing for me would be to remove panels and tank, and have a real good look over the wiring loom, make sure there are no breaks or poor connections.
    Good luck !

  5. Hi John. Yes mate, need to do it, calm down before reach the Allen key set to start.
Yesterday I run to a kawa dealer and tried a straitgh swap with a £5k worth bike! Glad it didn't work actually, I wouldn't get used to 50% less torque that the multi does.

  6. Not all Multis are problem bikes, but it does seem you are having a bunch of issues (all possibly related).
Once you've fixed this hopefully your good to go for the summer

We get spoilt by the torque, eh.

  7. Is it maybe the immobilizer antenna causing you grief? I unplugged mine to do some wiring to the din connector plug and was purplexed for a moment when the emergency switch did not want to switch on the electrics. It seems to need to see the immobilizer antenna before switching on. (it's situated underneath the black rh 'wing' cover right next to the frt 12V din plug)
