Confused Idiot

  1. Apart from the normal Google News stuff about funeral plans and giving away all my money quickly before I die soon, there was a story about social media 'influencers' being offered money for sex.

Amongst the many thing to confuse me, so who decides if you are an 'influencer'?

Are the jobs advertised? Are there many crap influenceres and, if so, where are they found? If this forum counts as 'social media', then I am a user of social media (and did go on Facebook for Kawasaki owners stuff but have never been back). But nobody influences me. I may read a post and think it is interesting, or may read a post and think that it is crap, but I don't have an "influencer", telling me what to think. Does that make it mean that I will fit in better once I am dead and had my 'free' funeral with everything else given away?

We need an "influencer" here to tells us all what to think ....

  2. Whether you like it or not people influence you, it’s why brands pay huge amounts of cash for affiliation with a star or why products have been placed in tv and film for years. You might even have bought something because a friend gave it a good review. This is influencing.

The more followers you have on social media the more influence you have. I.e. if you make a post about a product you reach more people and therefore greater range to influence. As a business it allows you to target groups or individuals that already might resonate with your product (if you pick an influencer that fits with brand values)

Mate of mine, professional athlete and influencer, does it for free, or used to :) he was selective obviously. He did have a gay guy request to have dinner with him on a regular basis for cash and he figured why not.. people are weird.

Might be fun to suggest a product and a influencer to promote it.. to start: nose plugs and Gwyneth Paltrow

  5. Ah, right. It is having 'followers'. I've noticed that on Youtube. So if you build up a good following and then accidentally (on purpose) "place" a can of something in shot, then you might be paid for that by the Brand Owner? And with lots of people following your channel, then you can declare yourself an "influencer"! Ahhh, get it now!

  6. Correct.. i think it’s a load of crap but nowt as queer as folk.

  7. It's sponsorship. All sportsmen and sportswomen are influencers.

  8. I didn't get the sponsorship thing. I took the literal and thought that an influencer told you what to think. I understood sponsorship more as it is open an obvious. I follow West Ham and did look at some of their sponsors' web sites, the other day. Their main sponsor is betway. They are the sponsor and it is obvious what the deal is. I guess that "influencers" are different in that they themselves don't have a product but they are there to get you to buy someone else's product.

  9. I believe the Kardashians are influencers  need we say more :D

  11. fanny candles to the lot of them…

  12. Kind of, although you can argue that an influencer is a brand or product (intangible or tangible) which promotes a lifestyle or values or similar interests that you or I aspire to, or resonate with. Historically sports people or personalities, but social media a bit like reality TV shows has opened it up to a load of talentless morons too.

In this instance West Ham are the influencers. West Ham fans are pretty loyal ( you need to be) and when someone associates themselves with West Ham, this sort of says West Ham think Betway are alright and it’s endorsement to use them. If you had a big west ham fan on social media who has acquired followers by posting about west ham he might also get paid for promoting items that might appeal to other West Ham fans and become an influencer.

So an influencer is someone or thing that through there actions or being changes your behaviour or thoughts about something or someone. Example lets say i have 10,000 followers and i post endless blogs about food in restaurants in london. Restaurants in the london area might see me as an influencer: Restaurants will provide me with free food in the hope that i post about it to my followers. This is a targeted and cheap way of advertising targeted group. Betway sponsor West Ham because it allows them to target a group of people interested in sport but not too bothered about winning ;)

  13. As I am NOT an influencer, I can say "Guiness is good for you" or "Welcome to the home of Shell V-Power - Britain's No.1 Performance Fuel. Whatever your journey, make this your fuel." But this forum does not allow advertising....

Now, where do I go to collect the money?

  15. What you do, is post moody pictures of drinking or pub or filling up with fuel. Get a ‘celeb’ to like or repeat. Keep up the volume hourly and make sure you also comment sycophantically on other ‘influencers’ an ‘celebs.

    wash, rinse, dry. Repeat.
