V4 Rusty Pipes

  1. Recently been using Harpic Power Max 10 to get the surface oxidisation/rust off. Keep away from anodised surfaces. Then just ACF 50 afterwards. Works a treat.

  2. think that works on stainless to a degree. the harpic that is.. i tried it on my pipes that were mirror polished and it does work on the lightly tarnished bits for sure but on the headers it dont...... but i think the op's pipes aint stainless if the are rusting

  3. Really? Why? And if that were true the market would be flooded with trick zorsts. Unless they just throw them all in a skip, which I doubt.

  4. Never heard of AF50 before , but I've just read the blurb on their website ,
and the longish customer review ( very detailed )

I'm well keen to try it now .... thanks for the info !

  5. It's been about for ages ,you could say it's "old tech" :joy::joy::joy: (sorry).

  6. To a degree, yes. But not as bad you'd think. These polished pipes are on a friend's 1199 Tric, which still looks shiny!

  7. The Ti systems they use aren’t designed to last from what I gather. They’re prone to cracking

  8. A bit of elbow grease and wire brush for the tougher bits and my pipes came up nice 0ACE2969-482E-4916-A7C8-4F54F22E9215.jpeg 1B09ADE1-113A-45B8-8C16-AFC8AB6E2930.jpeg .

  9. Don't think the headers on mine are Ti come to think of it. I think steel copes better with the heat cycles.

  10. I had to have a new muffler on my v4 at less than a year old. Split at a weld. Might be worth checking yours? Done under warranty of course.

  11. Yeah I have to say the welds on the muffler are poor, it just looks shite. I reckon Ducati are like ‘95% of our customers will put an aftermarket exhaust on so why bother making the stock one good?

  12. Its rubbish that the finish goes so quickly but you are pretty much asking for it if you ride it through the winter unfortunately. Even stuff like Hondas that are covered in masses of plastic get like this if used in the damp over winter when the salt is out.

  13. I know what you’re saying but this was the first (and last :joy:) time it’s been on anything but done dry roads and I literally cleaned it the minute I got home and dried it thoroughly. And the roads weren’t that bad either - more damp than fully wet.

I worked for Honda a few years back and it took a lot more than one short trip in the damp to make a Honda exhaust look like mine does now.

  14. Are polished exhausts the bikers equivalent of a duck pout on a Instagram gurl?

  15. Mine is making a slight sort of ticking noise like there's a slight blow at one of the headers so getting that checked under warranty when it goes for its service in March.
