1098S to a 1200S multi?

  1. Well, the previous owner of my 1098S traded it in for a Multistrada 1200S...

After the recent weather, the 1098S feels a bit... Pointless. The only time that bike shines is when it's bone dry and the road surface is good.

But riding through towns, social riding, anything other than dry roads and sunny weather it simply ruins the bike for me. It really isn't designed to pop out for 20 mins on to go grab a packet of smokes. Nevermind have a pillion on the back.

SO, I am thinking of doing the un-thinkable, doing as the previous owner did and exchanging the 1098S in for a 1200S Multi...

    Thoughts? [IMG]

  2. For the road the multi is the best bike in the range, can cruise around everywhere in 3rd gear using engine braking. Go for it, is there anywhere you can get a 24/48 hour test ride? Even hiring one might be worth looking at to 100% make your mind up

  3. If they'll throw a pipe and slippers into the deal then it could be worth looking in to.....

  4. I contacted someone just under 15 miles away selling. Will be honest with him and say it will be a test ride only. But I often just want to ride out and not have to give the bike the beans every time. A friend of mine lives about 40 miles away and would love to visit more on the bike. It's a mix between the M40 and A roads. On the 1098S, that is travelling between heaven and hell. With the Multi, I would be much more relaxed I think. Just change to touring mode for the M40 and then sports for the A roads. Oh look, a dust track... Enduro mode lol.

If anyone on here is a geek, you might understand me when I say this. But ever played Crysis? "Cloak engaged" lol, "Sport engaged" will be going in my mind.

Also, the current GF has taken a real liking to getting on the back of the 1098S, not for the adrenaline, but just because she enjoys the trips out.

At first she couldn't understand the enjoyment of me 'popping' out on the bike for 3 hours at a time, said it's pointless. Until I got the 1098S and took her on the back to a ride meet with about 25 other bikes, we went out for a long day and she loved it!

One weekend I said I am going to henley on the bike to grab a coffee, she got on the back and finally realised, it's the riding part that is fun. So yea. Ideally I want the multi to give me the fun factor of riding but at the same time not be hindered by conditions. It starts to rain a little, not the greatest, but with TCS and decent gortex gear, don't mind. As it is at the moment, summer leathers and a 1098S that is very sharp on the throttle is not fun in the slightest. :(

Also, can't rent because I am at a ripe young age of 24.

  5. Looks like you have virtually made your mind up

  6. You'll soon return to the superbike, your far too young to be practical with a functional bike.....

The head might say sensible....but your heart definitely won't....not just yet anyway?

  7. Oh yeah, that's a given ant.... Been there myself. 1098 is staying put permanently now!

  8. Will report back once I test ride one.

Oh, Anth, that guard, I will take it if it's still around :)

    PM me payment details.

  9. Yeah, I've got it with me even.

I've just been home this morning to change from the van to the car and put it in the car to bring with me.

I'll get something to package it up in and get it away in the morning or Tuesday.

    PM sent

  10. Chris
I have ridden the older multi 1000DS
Its a little tall for me but it's a great bike I was taking corners at 90 with no effort
It's brilliant and comfy as a pillion too though wind rush over 80 makes your neck ache a bit
The fact it was boring and easy to ride always made me hanker after getting back on dizzy again.
You will miss the sports bike but sounds like practicality and popping out a multi would be good
If I could reach the floor I would have one now no problem

  11. Cheers for the insight :)

I have owned a 748 for over 3 years which has now gone, and now this 1098S, yes it makes me grin from ear to ear on the rare occasion I can give it some. But in my mind, it's just a more powerfull and capable bike. Still the same if you know what I mean.

I enjoy riding because I like to ride, think I have come to the point where speed and knee down no longer factor into the fun of it. More so just being out on a bike!

Could be worse, could go through another Harley phase :p lol

  12. Go for it. I had always had sport bikes before the multi. I went for pikes peak as it looked sportier?!?!? It honestly has impressed friends with sports bikes just how quick and rideable it is. Unless you're on perfect Tarmac there's not much to match it and the way you can just change the whole bike set up at push of a button is brilliant. Best bike I have ever owned and with full termi still sounds the part!!!

  13. Woah....stop right there.....there is a limit, you know a line that you just don't cross....

I like the fatboy now should I hmm

  15. If you can ( perhaps hock everything) keep the 1098 for track days and get a Mutley. Best of both worlds!

  16. NO!
