  1. hi im new on hear iv got a problem i use my 916 nearly every day i went out to in on tuesday and she wouldnt start had to jump her off got to work and charged her up and started fine tuesday night wed thursday friday morning friday night bat was dead jumped her off and she is fine rev counter is working all ok iv checked the to yellow wires they have all ready been cut and soldered together pulled the regualtor plug it was a bit corroded so cleaned it put it back took her for a 10mile ride and still the bat was dead

  2. Sounds like the reg/rec is fecked.

Using it for commuting in traffic is a surefire way to kill the reg/rec.

  3. Check voltage across battery with a multimeter when running to see if it's charging, it could be just a dead battery not holding charge. They don't run long without the charging system working.

  4. i dont really get any traffic around hear ill check the battry tomorrow i only put it on about a year ago and when put on charge it lasted 3 days no probs or would it force charge it with it being on for 8 hours

  5. Every duke i've had has eaten batteries, wether using every day or keeping for a sunny day toy so the fact it's only a year old means nothing really. Bad to say but in my experience true.
As already said, check the battery voltage with engine off, fire it up and check it again, should have well over 13 volts if the reg/rec is working. If you don't have that then it's probably at fault, it you do then it could be the battery not holding a charge.

  6. whatever it turns out to be - battery/reg (hope it's not generator) glad to hear that you got straight on them yellow wires and plug anyway Bill. (first place I would have checked)

  7. Moved to Superbike

  8. ok iv checked and it only reading about 12.6ish volts running how can i check the other things ? the bike runs fine i just cant start it with out jumping it or charging the bat up iv had the bat checked and they say its good

  9. With a few revs it should be charging around 13.7 v if not its likely to be your rectifier.

  10. Have you cleaned battery connections particularly the earth at both ends

  11. ok iv just been on the phone to dealership and run thought sum tests and there saying it my alternator so off to book it in the next week or so

  12. It's far more likely to be the rectifier. You can get an aftermarket one for about £80 that is a lot better than Ducatis Original. I believe the company is electrex or something similar. I should know cos I have one fitted to my bike not on my computer otherwise would have a link for you somebody on the old site had a wiring diagram that showed how to fit it as the wiring is different. It's very simple to do though
is it a ducati dealership that's told you the alternator is fooked

  13. yes he ran me through the tests there is no feed from the yellow wires to the negative and there is no continuity he did say it could be a lose connection iv had a good look and fiddle and cant find any thing will take it to them and see what they say they have all ways been really good and helpful ill let you no what they say

  14. Please don't take this the wrong way I am not trying to insult your intelligence but when you checked the voltage from the yellow wires you did set your meter to AC volts?

  15. i just checked the ohomes and got no reading at all

  16. and got no reading on volts

  17. I have just replaced my rectifier and battery and still have no charge on my 999 so I'm fearing I may have the same problem.

This all occured when stuck in traffic my bike got very hot (109 degrees). I then started to get charging issues. After removing the fairing and battery tray etc I found that two of the 3 phases where the connection to the rectifier is had burned so badly it looked like it had possible caught fire! I had hoped that just the rectifier and was goosed but it's looking more like your problem now.....

Please let me know what this costs to fix :-(

  18. The haynes manual has a really good section on checking the charging system.
From the batt, reg/rec to the alt/stator - worth a read and running through the checks/tests!

    Good luck...:upyeah:

  19. Mat iv let you no how much it costs just got to save for a week or to lol

  20. Does anyon have any information on the possibility of changing the 916 fom single phase to 3 phase?

I have looked and a second hand generator is around the £35 mark for a 999
