Bt You View Box Ownership

  1. Hi all, had a guts full of the BT services we were getting ( intermittently! ) broadband signal dropping in & out, phone line crackling, the straw that broke the camels back was them charging us £6.50 to cancel the BT sport subscription, we were in to a second contract term, so surely the You view box would belong to us after the first 18 months subscription had run out !? ...but BT are insisting because we cancelled our subscription a month before the complete term date, the box must be sent back to them, obviously they are aware that the box can be used as a free view receiver & recorder.

  2. They seem to be very rules based nowadays.

I have just renewed for 2 years with the new disc guaranteeing whole house cover. Chap should be here in 15 mins. Frankly I know I pay over the odds but I can’t mace the arse ache of changing. Once Ofcom sort then out over email address charging when you leave then it might well be a different matter.

Soon unlimited 5G on a mobile will replace all these cowboys. Though tbf Virgin BB has been great, never one problem issue in 4 years or price increase.

  4. Unfortunately we can’t get Virgin where we live. I like the fact that you don’t need a landline with them.

  5. I have the same issues with BT. Digital signal drops out often, sometimes so bad a recording can fail. Seems to happen more often during wet weather

  6. Yep, my BT is pretty crap overall too....

  7. The chap turned up as promised to ‘fit’ my new hub and extension discs. God knows why, simple job to do. All is good, signal through the house now (needed the router and two extension discs). Only issue was our Wi-fi cameras (Nest) which I had to reset as if new.
I had plug in range extenders before. Crap.
So, if works but it’s piggin expensive for what I use.

  8. Justatad I was with Bt for a couple of years, solely because I wanted to watch Moto GP on Bt sport. When the contract with Bt came to an end they sent me a large envelope requesting that I return the Youview box. As I had paid originally for the box when I joined Bt, I figured it belonged to me and as I didn't want to part with it, as I use it as you mention as a recording device and to watch Freeview Tv, I just ignored their emails asking me to return it for 'recycing'
