Nice one There's a few of us in Kent who get together for rideouts if you fancy it when it's sorted. Midday every 4th Sunday in the month at Mickeys Diner on the A229 Bluebell Hill, between Maidstone and Chatham. Give me a shout if you need a hand with anything, I'm in Ashford.
Hi NN. Thanks for offer of help sure hope to get the bike going for a ride out. I am also in Ashford. Will catch up sometime.
We'll have to sort out a cuppa sometime If you need a good local workshop for stuff you can't sort try Ducati ProTeam in Strood, Alec knows his stuff and is very reasonable and highly recommended. For parts I use Moto-Rapido and always get stuff next day.
Hi NN thats real helpful info. Will have a cuppa cheers. Going to try post a picture of the work in progress.
Got engine running yesterday, idles nicely once warmed up and no nasty noises, only yhting fuel gauge not working, anyone got a spare?
It's a b*****d to get at.....It might clean up and work......a secondhand replacement might work..........and a new one costs a lot of dosh........any of them could well pack up again within two weeks of fitting it. Most people ignore them (you can't see the warning light in sunlight anyway) and use their trip meter to fill up every 100 miles. AL
Thats exactly what I do, my warning light was having its own little disco, I stuck some tape over it and simply re-set the trip each fill...
thanks for advice, glad I did not try to buy new one for it to go wonky afters. good plan just keep topping up. A bit worry to hear range of 100 miles.
btw have you guys read this from Hunter Thompson? Hunter S. Thompson reviews the Ducati 900SS - Dr Gonzo on the Ducati 900SS - Page 2 - Page 2 - Features - Visordown
Its a piddly little tank.........I have managed 120 miles without running out, but I reckon I was cutting it fine. Just in case your sender unit wires are cocked, is the light on or off all the time?......mine is on and I just ignore it. If it is off, check the wiring and use a test light at the plug just before the big nut.....I think it is the blue and brown pair. PS....They sometimes take a few seconds to register and come on. PPS....Be careful with the big nut.....they are plastic and break easily. AL
I had the plug off carefully and replace back on carefully, tested open circuit and light stays off, guess better off than on.
Did you test both parts of the harness when the plug was disconnected? (not just the sender) IE is power getting to the sender plug and can it 'earth out' from the plug? AL
Good to hear (if you know what I mean ). Low fuel sensor might just 'wake up' if you are lucky - has happened to me a few times. i've found them very reliable if wires not tugged at.There's an early rotted out tank in my loft with a sensor still fitted,if you are not in a hurry I could remove and test in the next month or so.
I'd rather you came and fitted one to mine, Chris........you know what will happen to my hands and wrists shoving them through the tank hole.... AL
Hi Chris, yes please if you can spare it, even if non working be good to have to take apart to see how the thing work or should I say not work.
