fuel hose

  1. Quick question, what hose would be safe to use inside an ss tank for the filter and pump and also the drain tube for the filler neck?
    Would neoprene be suitable?
    Thanks,

  4. Make sure it's suitable for immersion in fuel. Not all fuel lines are.....

  5. Thanks for the replies.. I have bought plenty of fuel hose before but I have to say that I have never asked if it was suitable for full immersion in fuel. I was told that Neoprene fuel hose was much better than the other synthetic rubber hoses and seems to be used by motorcycle manufacturers, but I am not sure if it is suitable for full immersion in fuel.
I'll ask again tomorrow and see what the responses are..

  6. You can't use regular fuel hose inside the tank. It will break down over time and fail, as well as gumming everything up. There's a special kind of pipe. I can't remember its name but I know it costs a lot more than regular pipe. I ended up having to use it externally as I didn't have the normal stuff and it was a real waste of money.

  9. Cheers for the replies. I had a look on fuel pumps online, but they seem to only do a convoluted plastic pipe. Maybe I haven't just found the right hose on the website. Merlin motorsport have 5/16 bore pipe rated for inside fuel tanks to a DIN spec for total immersion. I think that hose to SAE 30R10 is similar. Gates also do a hose also (part no. 27093) which is a 5/16 FKM hose for total immersion.. Of course, Ducati do the proper hose for the tank (part no. 59010271A).. Trouble is, no one stocks anything like that over here..
I think I would have been better going to the pub last night!!

  10. Gilps, did you have to order that hose specially or was it in stock somewhere?

  11. I was at Louigi Moto working on the bike when we decided that the fuel pipes were cracking up. Unfortunately Rich only had the inner tank stuff so we had to use it externally. Rich wasn't happy about it as the stuff is bloody expensive and he hates waste, even though I paid him for it. Have you tried a local motor factors, or a hose specialist. I think there is a Pirtek in most major towns.

  12. I tried a few motor factors on saturday, but they either didn't know or didn't have. I did ask them what was written on the hose and they were all normal external rated hose. I'll try a few of the more specialised suppliers. Thanks for the info on Pirtec, I'll try them too. I think they are in Belfast, or a distributor anyway.. I have mot on Thursady, thus the panic.. I might have to use normal hose for the test then empty the tank and strip the hose out again..
