Ducati Data Analyser use.

  1. I'm after advice please on the DDA.I've tried using it twice, and got nothing so far. I'm still thinking it might be an error on my part, before i suggest it's a defect. If i say exactly what i did, then hopefully someone call make a suggestion what I'm doing wrong. (It's on a 1198, I'm the first owner so I can't contact the earlier owner to see if worked previously)
Right. Bike not running, ignition off. Fitted data stick (as supplied by Ducati) under seat in the wiring, secured, replaced seat.
Started bike, scrolled through the menu to clear data. Held button down, screen read wait, I waited, screen returned to normal. Scrolled to DDA Off, held button, turned DDA on. DDA on lit on the screen.
    Quick 5 mile ride, returned.
Back through screen to DDA On, held button, switched Off. Screen confirmed. I then switched the bike off, removed the key, removed the data stick.
Flashed up computer, installed the data stick into the usb port then opened the DDA program. The program said there was a data stick in the D drive, but that it was blank.
I really have no idea what I'm doing wrong, and I'm thinking (hoping!) its me being a fool and missing something obvious!

    Thanks folks!

  2. You turn the DDA on as you said, then I think you need to flash the headlight to start recording data, each subsequent press will start a new lap.

  3. Thanks for that. I'll try it this evening. It's something I'm going to bother with regularly, it's more a novelty at present, but if i get it working properly I'll give it a go at a track day, just through interest!

  4. From the handbook

    DDA data acquistion
This function serves to activate the DDA (Ducati Data Analyzer)
(see page 78): the DDA must be connected to the motorcycle
    wiring.
To activate the DDA, go into the menu and set the “DDA”
to “On” by pressing switch (1, fig. 10) in position B “▼“
    for 3 seconds.
START and STOP the lap separator by pressing the high
beam FLASH button (13, fig. 6) on the left-hand handlebar
    switch.
If the DDA function is active and the instrument panel
is suddenly switched off (Key-Off), the function is
    automatically disabled.

  5. I have tried again, this time using the lap timing function as suggested, and also turned the lap timing function on. The flashing of the headlight button seems to activate the lap timer (although i can't as yet reset it) but have no effect on the DDA. The instructions, as kindly replicated by Chris, doesn't seem to help me! ILL see if this thread gives me another idea, if not I'll try emailing either the supplying dealer or maybe Ducati UK.
When the lap timer function is working, the LAP display on the dash' flashes. The DDA one doesn't. Anybody know if it should?

    Thanks again!

    Ian.

  6. You may need to update the firmware on the usb stick before it works. I have just used my DDA on 1198 at Cadwell and it worked a treat with the lap splitting the sessions up nicely, easy to compare one lap to the other. Have a look on Prosa.com as they make the sticks for Ducati. There was something on there regarding updating if you have the red one but dont need to with the blue one (or something!!) You dont need to use the lap for it to work as this is how I used it on the road, I just stopped then turned the DDA on or off as needed.

  9. Quick update. Took my bike , computer and usb thing to GT Motorcycles in Plymouth, and tried various things there. My stick works on their computer, their stick works on their computer. Neither work on mine. From this it seems that my computer or program on it is not playing the game. That's fine, now i know I'll remove the program and reload it, see if that makes a difference.
I'd like to say, incidentally, a big thank you to GT for their efforts. They kindly gave far more time than i would have expected to me, even to the the extent of using their own data sticks to fault find.
    Thank you gentlemen!

    Ian.
