Hypermotard 950sp Seat Height Comparison -please Help

  1. Hello,
I am really considering a new Hypermotard 950SP to replace my Multistrada 950S.
My dealer does not have one in stock and I cannot sit on one to check if I can manage the seat height.

I am 173cm and 65kg, and with short legs :(

I did ride my friend's scrambler Desert Sled and was fine on it, is there anybody who did try this out and compare the seat height for me?

My multistrada is with a low seat which technically should put it at 820mm but I am on tippy toes but I think the reason being is that the seat is wide.

    thank you.

  2. Hi
I'm 172cm, 65kgs with 30" inside leg with trousers. I bought the 950 rather than the SP, firstly to save some cash, secondly the SP was too tall. I don't like only being able to get one foot down. I expect you could drop the forks and mod the rear shock on the SP.

  3. thank you.
I do not want to modify the suspension.
I will get a lower seat.
we are almost identical in terms of stature, did you try the SP with a lower seat?
are you riding yours with a standard or lower seat please?

  4. Hi
I did'nt try the SP with a lower seat. I ride mine with the normal seat - so you are right the SP with a lower seat may well just scrape in.

  5. thank you

  6. Lower seat.
Best Money I ever spent. This was a big problem for me, always's being worried about where to plant foot at stops. Now I don't even think about it.
If I am correct, 173cm is about 5 foot 6.. Even with the lower seat, it may still be a little tall for you. The only way to find out is to go to your dealer and ask them to put a lower seat ont to test. Just tell them this is the only way you will buy the bike. Any good shop will make this happen if they really want to sell a bike.
Tell them your first interest is the SP, if the lower seat doesn't work, then forget the SP and start looking at the standard one. Don't let them push you into getting the standard one just because they don't want to help you with the seat issue.
It is like going to a car dealership and not sitting in a car before buying.

  7. To begin, I only have the standard version, not the SP version. My friend rides a Desert sled 2019 which I happened to try on and it's quite higher than my 950. I can barely touch the ground with 1 foot. On my 950 with the Racing seat (-15mm) and reducing the shock absorber a bit, I can touch down with both feet (only tiptoeing though).

The Desert sled is 860 I believe? And SP is 890? So you would have to be very, very comfortable on the Desert sled if you want to stand on the ground with the 950 SP. As the others have suggested, ask your dealer to try on the SP with the lower seat (-20mm) or racing seat (-15mm) before making the decision. It's your money so make use of your purchasing power.

  8. It isn’t always down to straight out numbers, the width of the seat will affect what you can physically place on the floor.

  9. True that. I totally forgot about it. Speaking about the width, the 939 seat was alright for me, and it's wider than a Scrambler seat for sure. Can't remember if the shock was adjusted or not but it probably was. And I'm 1m68.
