May not need to bleed system. Replace pads, bleed to nipple, bungy overnight then bleed top nipple again. Hardest part is getting the caliper out from the rim.
There should be no need to disconnect the hoses to remove the calipers, so no need to re-bleed the brakes. As others have said, just push the pads back. I do this by removing the mounting bolts and then twisting the caliper so the disc pushes the pads back. A bit of decent rag or thick masking tape as bradders said is essential to stop the wheel rim getting scratched by the banjo bolts. I've used OE pads, Brembo HH pads, SBS pads, Bendix pads plus some others over the years on my 1200. The Brembo HH definitely offer more bite than the OE pads, and are half the price. SBS make sintered Road and Race pads and dual carbon race pads. Dont be tempted by their dual carbon race pads, they take a bit to warm up, which is not ideal for road use. The Race ones (RS I think) offer more bite but they wear faster, make more dust, and also squeal sometimes, especially if wet. The sintered Road ones (HS) to me are similar/better in performance to the Brembo ones, but less money. I'm not overly keen on the Bendix ones. They just don't seem to give the same level of feel to me and therefore confidence when pushing on. I consequently generally use the SBS Road sintered pads, unless I am feeling flush / can't get them, in which case I use the Brembo HH ones. I dont bother with the Ducati OE pads any more. Thanks for everybody’s advice, tomorrow I shall spend the day lying on the garage floor looking at brake pad wear, cleaning everything I can touch and then cleaning it again, checking pressures and generally fettling away. Lunch might get a look in sometime.
I have a nice leather stool in the garage which I use to clean stuff and whatnot, a lift, now that seems like another plan, we’re having new bedroom carpet soon so what’s there now will replace the stuff in the garage, so a lift could be on the cards after the carpet.
Just done 10k on my 2015 dvt Brake pads (front started making noise) they still got some live in them but don't want to damage the Discs .. Anyone tried: Ducati 1200 Multistrada 2015> Brembo SA Sintered Front Brake Pads And rear: Ducati 1200 Multistrada 2015> Brembo CC Rear Brake Pads A complete set for front and rear £85 on ebay ... Any recommendations?
I have the Brembo SA pads fitted to both front and rear of my bike, very good indeed. Google carpi moto in Italy as they supply much cheaper than anywhere I can find in the UK, they also supplied my sprockets and chain three weeks ago.
Capri moto got some got prices for all the parts !! I ordered Brembo LA Sintered street 07bb38 for the front and Brembo SP Sintered street 07bb04 for the rear! All 83 Euro... cheaper than ebay!! Thanks BigAlan !!
Wow, I am glad I took my front wheel out without reading this first. I had the calipers on and off very easily, no different to any other bike I have changed pads on in fact. Is it the S models you guys struggle with ? My DVT was a breeze.
