i. Got a 2002 748E on a 03 plate. The spec doesn't seem to be norm that I've read for these. its had a non original mono seat fitted onto a biposto subframe. Showa rear shock, not sure about the top yoke is this the adjustable one ? Its got 45mm Termignonis on it. I bought some standard silencers to keep for putting back to standard ZDM A14 and ZDM B14 but these are 50mm. What is the standard pipe diameter for these?
Okay, it used to be common for people to fit a monoposta seat unit on a biposta subframe, no biggy and easy enough to put it back to biposta, if you got the original parts with the bike. Showa rear shock absorber is correct for the bike. I’m not sure if the adjustable steering head angle was standard on that bike. The top yoke is common across the bikes (apart from the numbered specials), the adjustability is from a tube in the headstock which is rotated through 180 degrees. If the steering damper rose joint fixing point has 2 adjacent threaded holes, it is possible it is adjustable. If there is only 1 then no, not adjustable. Standard end can is 45mm. Hope this helps. Andy
45mm is standard size for the exhaust, top yoke is standard, the adjustable steering head was not on the E model, the head angle can be adjusted with a concentric head tube on earlier models. Steve
As above, stock exhausts are 45mm, the 'E' was the cooking fat model, which is still no bad thing but the rear shock in your bike has been upgraded to a Showa one, which isn't surprising because they were cheap and easy to get hold of. The stock one is a Sachs. The frame on the E is non adjustable also, i.e you can only have the steering angle set in one place which also is fine for 90% of people but I'm just outlining that there is a small difference in the frame as it only has one steering damper position. Lovely clean bike, I miss mine, I was only 22 when I got my 748E straight from a ZXR400 and I'll be honest and say I was a little overwhelmed at the time by the ownership experience and the costs.
Congrats on having such a clean MY02 748E that can easily be restored to original spec in such good condition. Non original bits include the fairing air duct v piece, rear hugger, termis, Dzus fasteners, seat, screen, and the MY02 E had a Sachs shock, usually the mirrors were unfinished black but they fitted whatever was available. There were a few mono Es but no UK spec ones. Your bike has the Zeuna 45mm exhaust with normal Termi alloy cans so be wary of the head/manifold plate cracking. Please restore the screen to oem asap as the double bubble ones destroy the subtle lines of the bike. Looks like the suspension has been set up well and the bike has been well looked after. I think it was built late 01 into 02 but you can check that by routing around the bike for dates
Thanks for that. I like my bikes to be bog standard when I come to sell them. I take it I'd have no problems getting rid of the Termis. Are the screen, cans, hugger easy enough to get hold of?
IMO Termis are a positive selling point, especially if you can also include standard cans. I have a pair of 45mm standard end cans if you're interested.
Thanks. I would be interested in the cans if they are good and the right price. remember I'm a tight yorkshireman
So am I You can have them for 50 quid? I'm not too far away from Huddersfield, you could come and have a look at them if you want. Or I could post up some pics for you. Oh, and they include the mounting straps. Paul
Found a few pics in the archives from when I was going to sell them a few years back. They came off my '98 748 when I fitted Termis but did not get sold on with the bike...
What I meant was I'd like to get a biposto unit for if and when I sell it. I much prefer the look of the mono. Thanks anyway.
