Spent loads of time at sea, and seen lots of sharks, dolphins, porpoises etc. Saw a couple of unuasual things too - a dead cow floating in the Adriatic, and 2 dead Iraqis in the northern Gulf Saw a pair of Killer Whales in the North Atlantic. Not quite sure why, but I was really excited about it! Obviously after months at sea, and getting along-side somewhere, I've seen the odd mate go off with a Whale after a pint or 6 :biggrin:
I have been to Norway to see just Orca's, I saw easily over one hundred of them, many up really close with calves. Lots of tail slapping and jumping, from a chartered ship. Bloody cold though as it was late November within the arctic circle, and minus 15. It was light by 0900 and dark by 1230!! I have seen lots of Dolphins off of Wales, some close in near New Quay while having a meal and some from the a beach about 10 miles away. Also lots of Porpoise off of Pembrokeshire. To be fair if you want to see Dolphins, go to that area of Wales, from the shore you have a very good chance without having to take boats out and spending money. I have also seen a Fin Whale (second largest whale in the world) and Porpoise and dolphin off of the Italian coast between Monaco and Genoa on a Whale watch chartered boat. Also seen Dolphin whilst on a ferry in Gambia. I went looking for Sperm Wales on a sailing yacht off of Madeira but alas saw nothing. That's the game I am afraid.
