Has anyone had any success using another part? The original part number is 592.1.005.2B (unobtanium) Stein Dinse suggest part no. 592.1.0161A but this is 172 euros Will a monster or any other Ducati part work?
I'm fairly sure one of mine is buggered. But I actually need one for a spare tank that has been painted. I'm wondering if a bung could be a better option, with the two wires for the fuel pump passing through. I don't think i'd trust the fuel light anyway. The buggered one might be the cause of the intermittent short circuit that blows the main fuse occasionally. I suspect that the aluminium nut is sometimes 'live', and that it sometimes grounds on the frame (where it has worn the paint off). I have not yet had time to fully investigate. Does anyone else's nut ground on the frame? I need to put a spacer under the hinge plate to raise the tank up a bit I think. My hinge plate is different to the later ones, perhaps its a bad design on the 1991.
Ah, you mean a fuel level sensor - well, that's different then. The newer version of those fitted to carbed SSs are more reliable; but frankly I would disconnect the faulty one and rely on the trip meter; filling up every 100 miles. The trouble with even a good working one, is that you can't see the mickey mouse warning light in sunlight.
i was out last night and spotted a dull reddish glow from one of the idiot lights, oh dear, pulled over, got my eyes about an inch away from it and made out a fuel pump sign, phew!, never seen it before as I always use the trip meter, 100 miles and fill up again, anyway what is the fuel sensor for, as Al says the 900ss doesn’t have one, but on bikes that do what is it actually sensing? EDIT, sorry missed the later posts, fuel level sensor, all is well in the world again. 2nd EDIT, isn’t it annoying when you forget to set the trip to Zero when you’ve filled up, grrr!
OK - I have a fuel level sensor - any good tips on how I seal it up? Is there a good sealing compound to use?
I'll probably rely on the trip meter as many have advised, but from these photos can anyone tell me if my (900SS carb 1994) sensor is actually complete, or has something broken off the tip in the dim and distant past? Cheers
That is missing a tube from above the "bulbous bit" it has a similar three slots in the top. (See attached pinched photo) On mine I opened them up slightly and flushed it with contact cleaner. First time it has worked since I got the bike years ago. So I will in all probability trust the trip meter more and fill at 100 mile intervals...
Thanks for that. Do you know what that top bit (which is missing on mine) actually does, I mean, can it work without the top bit of tube or not? What there is of my sensor seems stuck solid but then again I dont know whether anything I can see is supposed to move or not. When you wrote "On mine I opened them up slightly and flushed it with contact cleaner", can you explain a bit more what you mean by that, what did you 'open up'? Cheers.
