999 Brake Light Switch Front Help

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Alastair_999, May 8, 2020.

  1. Hello all. I hope everyone is keeping well in these challenging times. I just realised my front brake light isn’t working and figured that one of you would tell me how to get the delicate micro switch off. I assume it’s broken or needs cleaning as the back lights the bulb. Since I can’t buy any reading glasses I can’t see shit at the moment. Lol. So some help and or tips to check it greatly appreciated. Stay safe, sane and shiny side up. There’s not so much help around if you bin it so ride carefully for your essential items

  2. I think it just prises out from memory, use a wooden or plastic spatula to avoid marking.

best I could find, similar but not ideal- jump to 1 minute:-

  3. Thanks for the help so far. Got the old one off. Very easy. They seem to be £60 online. Good lord!!!! If I put a meter across it should it swap from open circuit to continuity depending on if the plunger is out or in. Don’t want to buy unless sure it is that.

  4. Yes continuity shoud make andbreak acfkss the wires when the switch is actuared

  6. When I first got my 999, the front brake didn’t operate the brake light.
@Derek on here pointed me at the connector on the top rail in front of the tank on the rhs.
Gave it a good wiggling and hey presto!!

  7. Same issue for me last year with my 999

  8. Hi all. Thanks for the advice. No obvious corrosion but as mentioned by others I traced and re seated the wires/connector and it all works fine now.
