https://www.ultimate-bikes.co.uk/used-ducati-748-biposto-for-sale-2760435 Hi I'm a little bit interested in buying the above bike. I don't ride to much due to work and family commitments. Is it ok to leave in the garage on a trickle charger or is it a bike that should be used to keep it working ok? Thanks
That bike was originally a biposta not the monoposta it appears today. Isolated cases of MoT testers insisting on pillion foot rests being fitted, even with a monoposta seat because of the biposta rear subframe have been known. 7 service stamps sounds reasonable but on a bike of that age, the belt service interval would have been every 2 years and if it hasn’t had one, it is due a ‘Desmo’ valve clearance check service which is not cheap (budget about £600). IMO, for an insurance writeoff due to the cost of (usually cosmetic) repairs, the asking price is very high. Andy
Shame it’s on the register as a cat D, and the tacky MV Agusta single seat unit. Would be fine left on a optimate charger. If possible get the wheels off the ground and take the pressure off the suspension and save flat spotting the tyres, and depending how long your leaving the bike put it into gear and rock it about every so often so the belts are not stuck in one place.
Wrong group to ask "should I ride it or keep it locked up" Short/medium term is ok but should be ridden to well hot at least every couple of months (IMO)
"All standard apart from Termignoni exhaust" . What are the fairing fasteners? They look like big self tappers. IMO it's at least 2 grand over priced.
I agree, seems very overpriced to me after what I recently paid for a good original bike with no write off history. I would suggest holding out for something better
i can see that may well be picked up as an issue, but did you realise that ( in 2000) my 996 was able to be ordered as a mono or Biposto? as it arrived with the all red single seat on it from the factory, and we swapped it over to a Biposto prior to delivery. I think there were some nice black thread insert blanks that came on the bike to cover the screw threads on the subframe if i remember correctly
Agree with all the points above, I bought a similarly specced one about 18 months ago with 5k miles for less than that. Does look tidy though so might be worth a cheeky low-ball offer. Regardless of the bike in question you won't regret buying a 748, I love mine, don't see myself ever parting with it. Fast enough, great chassis and it looks and sounds absolutely brilliant!
The more I look at the 748, 916, 996, 998. The more I want one in the garage. I'll probably be a fair weather rider on one though
