I've just bought a 2011 1200S and received one key plus one 'service' key. Is that right or should I have got two of the fancy keyless keys? thanks steve
I only got one of each with mine Remote keyless with flip out key and a Red Transponder key. I bought a Blank Spare and got it laser cut (part No. is on the forum somewhere), keep it on a lanyard around my neck to open panniers, fuel filler cap and keep the "fancy" one firmly zipped in my jacket pocket..... Seems a to work for me..... A new fancy one will set you back £97 + Vat and then the cost to laser cut and re-code - didn't bother to go any further. Ray.
Great. Thanks all. I have the right keys then - good to know. Ray - like you spare idea. Might well do that. Steve
As Derek said. I bought a blank from the dealer (£12) and had it cut to shape for another £20. Use it for the fuel cap , seat lock etc. The transponder stays safely locked up in my jacket.
The time to go and get an extra (third) key is before one of the old ones has been lost, worn out or broken - so now would be a good time.

I found an early post by AndyW......below is the Part No. for a Ducati Blank Key with no Transponder...cheaper than the Red Key!!! I was told at Snell's In Alton that you can only have 'one Red Key' coded at any one time so no point buying another Red Key like I did!!! t965m - would that be a replacement Red key?.............blank Black keys are about £20 I believe. Hello everyone! I just bought a 2003 M800 Dark from a trader, no code card or red key just one functional black key which is ok for now however when it goes wrong what can I do?
The black key can be "cloned" by a locksmith which would give you a spare should lose the one you have. In the longer term it might be best to contact Chrisw to get the ECU reflashed to operate without the immobiliser. On the Multi keys; last week I went to a local locksmith to enquire about getting a mechanical copy made. He reckoned he could do it if he could locate a suitable blank and it would be £12.50 to laser cut it. I then tried Timpsons, their reply rather surprised me. They will only copy a "chipped" key onto another "chipped" key. I asked if they would cut a blank non-transponder key and they said absolutely not, allegedly for security reasons. They claim that criminal types had been getting non-chipped keys cut and subsequently fitting chips to them. Seems a bit dubious to me, if they have the key to copy they'd just get a chipped copy made!
