Sorry guys but I am being serious after 17 years with my SS - How does the riding position compare with a 900 carby; is the seat tiring on a long road trip and lastly (with apologies) does anyone have pics of the pillion Many thanks
Can only reply with regard to the later ie version. The seat is not good for long runs - I could feel the effects for three days after riding mine 539 miles in 24 hours.
I've only sat on one. Rider position is easier than SS with wider, higher bars. Pillion pad is tiny with a ridge in centre.
Just as a follow up in case it helps others, I finally took delivery on my Pani a few weeks back and fitted the comfort seats shown below hope this helps
My Mrs is still refusing to get on the back of an 1199 even though she's ok with my 1098. I think it's more psychological than anything as there isn't much to sit on and she says it doesn't look safe!. That seat does look the business. I'm sure the next sunny day when I say I'm going for a ride out into the Yorkshire Dales, stopping off at a few country pubs for refreshments along the way she'll give in!.
I have a regular pillion with my Mrs and to be honest .....bloody nightmare lol , she doesn't complain with the standard seat but as no grab rail to much weight transfer on the brakes without a grab rail , also when on the power she has to hold on tight and that restricts the riders movement , I had an 848 with a grab rail fitted and it makes it a much better ride for both the pillion and the rider , I tend to take her out on the blade (grab rail fitted) or my multistrada . grab rails might not look sexy but god do they make a difference .
The best thing I bought and probably one of the cheapest things I've bought was the grippy pillion seat cover, it only cost £12.50 from ebay, takes about 2 minutes to put on and take off and stops the passenger from sliding down their seat and into the back of you when you brake.
My gurlyfreind makes me wear a bugger belt on the 999. Paid about a £10 for it. Hardly see it on a black jacket but I whizz it off as soon as we arrive anywhere as its a bit Sensible Sydney. She doesn't hang on to it much as she reads the road and anticipates my riding but its handy for stop start traffic . Had to tell her off for steering me though.
I like my Mrs to wear those belts in the bedroom, for maximum thrust. Seriously, I have used them on the bike taking a pillion round the IOM and they are a great bit of kit, if a bit sam browne.
