Hi, Guys. Does anyone have an answer to this problem? Bought my head lift stand at the NEC show ready for anticipated works. I have a 27mm headstock pin, which is only 5 cm or so long. The stand actually contacts the fairing just under the headlight, misshaping the fairing before the wheel comes off the ground. I am sure it would do no good to try to lift it further. Would a longer lift pin with maybe a top hat shape be the answer? Or is the angle of the part contacting the fairing the problem? I have an Abba Stand as back up to help me for now, as going back to Pirelli's. Thanks, Dave
Sadly that stand is not suited to the Panigale. I had the same problem although it was fine on the 748. I couldn’t be arsed with trying to modify a pin to sort it out so my stand is consigned to the loft. Saving my pennies for a Pierobon. Andy
Thanks, Andy. I'm sure I remember someone modifying a pin on this forum. Whether that will solve the issue I don't know! Dave
I welded from memory a 19mm long socket to an existing pin that came with the stand, works a treat and never failed me.
My cheaper stand that I’ve used without issue on my Suzuki’s was also useless on my 899, even with the correct sized pin. I think the very good (Gee-tech/Harris) stands do the job but you pay for the quality. I bought the front lift kit for my Abba stand in the end.
Same issue here. Bought a front lift stand from Demon Tweeks including separate purchase of Ducati pin, from them. It crushed the underside of my 899, or it would have if I didn’t have my hand under the lights. Needless to say that went back and I bought a Harris front lift stand. A breeze to use. Happy now.
Do the panigales come with a hole in the bottom yoke? Could someone post a photo of what the yoke looks like from below the front fairing?
It’s bloody tight to photograph the yoke/stem hole from underneath. If no ones posts an excellent one by tomorrow a.m. then I’ll give it a go. The hole has a small plastic cover over it which pops off using a small screwdriver etc.
Thanks mate. Much appreciated. I rattled a headstock stand up today and it would be interesting to know what mods it would need to to be able to lift a panigale. Do they all have a same sized hole on the lower yoke? Thanks
I think the key is to have the frame of the stand well underneath the fairing near the lights. Avoiding lifting the front by the plastic! Hope the first pictures show this OK.
Then the main hole for your lifting pin is either 27mm, or maybe 28.8 (soz, can't be sure) and there is another, larger lip that may do the actual lifting, dimension unknown. Hope these pics help, I use a small screwdriver to prise the plastic cover off. Dave
27mm? That’s a fair sized hole! I wonder why they went that big. So going by the photo, the inner hole is probably about 20 or 22mm? Cheers, Ian
No, the smaller hole is maybe 27mm, but some have said 28.8mm. The larger hole is maybe 2mm larger diameter, but difficult for me to measure accurately. This picture is of my pin, BUT does not mean it is the correct one for the job. I think I need a longer pin, with maybe a 'top hat' shape to fit in the lip mentioned above, thus keeping the stand frame away from my plastics.
@V4Missile, I reckon this stand would work better with or without the pin as it looks to lift the front end more vertically.
