Which Ear Plugs .... Not The Normal Question

  1. Interesting - the Senner & EGGZ are about 24/26dB, which I like but they irritate my ears some days. I bought a load of Howard Leight plugs and didn't like them at all! If only I could get rid of the tinnitus (from a lot of 70's very loud rock and biking with no earplugs) I'd be a lot happier... Nothing doing there though! One thing I don't miss is the doctored airbox from my 900SS, no filters on carbs from the 70's, etc which were beautiful sounds but were extremely harsh (much more than the deep exhaust soundtrack). That and wind noise has damaged my ears beyond saving :(

  2. I'm left with a little tinnitus from engineering as my first few jobs, angle grinder and no ear protection, early Simpson helmets designed for cars not bikes and always having loud pipes on bikes.

35dB feels unnatural, the 24dB felt acceptable. I had to do something, I've swapped to a Simpson bike helmet now, which has helped, but the full termi on my Diavel 1260s is epic, but too loud to ride with no additional protection for too long. The Pinlock plugs definitely took the edge off yesterday, no ringing ears when I got home and cost £20 delivered .... have to be worth a try.

If I get on with that level of protection, I may splash out on some fancy custom ones at some point. But, this has been an education in different levels of protection etc, I naively thought ear protection just blocked everything out ... I know better now.
