Bought second hand forks from an ebay dealer and the first time I applied 19Nm to the bottom pinch bolts, the bloody fork bottom snapped!!...SO, I'm stuck.. ANything out there??
That’s really bad news. Perhaps they were already cracked? Doubt that you will be able to prove it though.
Hi< I have some Ohlins 1098 forks which are as new, fitted them to my 999 some years ago and never used the bike, I shall be stripping and selling everything, only retaining engine and chassis, I shall get some Pic's later and post tomorrow, although in all honesty it must be cheaper to fit a replacement, or go mad and fit some billet NCR
I had an ohlins foot replaced by an Ohlins dealer. You might be surprised at the cost, should be cheaper than buying complete forks. TB
Fair Point... My Preference is K Tech over Ohlins, although gonna try black Marzocchi off a Panagale with Matris Internals !!
Thanks for response, I had a price of 220 plus vat for the foot RHS but it's 2 to 3 weeks to come from Sweden! The bikes been rebuilt over winter lockdown, it's a 749S with 924cc and 848 rear end, 1098 front end which I built for my partner, it's low seat height is a deal breaker for her. The forks I bought from moose Ducati on eBay had a few scrapes but nothing looked serious. I'm more considering replacing both front fork bottoms/feet.. Not a cheap business.. @Lorne250 how much would you take for your forks?
Moose Ducati is a member on here. I have bought a lot of stuff from him over the past year and I can only say his service is excellent and I doubt very much he would knowingly sell you something he knew was defective. There is a thread on here about a recall on Ohlins forks relating to Multi's where one of the fork bottoms has to be replaced due to them cracking under normal use
Yes, dont misunderstand me, I wasnt pointing finger directly. It was my call to keep and use the forks as per ebay returns. Indeed I have asked Moose if theyve anything to help to repair/replace..just no reply yet..
The part numbers for the feet or bottoms has changed to; left 4742-33 right 4742-32 for fg811 (and 511 too I believe) I think the cracked bottom may be due to fatigue and overtorque, 19Nm isnt much on an 8mm bolt tbh.
The torquing of the front axle pinch bolts has been an issue for many, many years, I remember having the same on my 1962 Norton 650ss Road Holder forks. In practice, 19Nm is IME, unnecessarily high and 10 to 12Nm is ample. Andy
I was going through the build doing all the 'jesus' bolts to factory spec. Its funny the triples are only 14Nm and arguably a much beefier component. I torqued the LHS to 14Nm yesterday and no issue so far..the axle nut is 63Nm which I thought was high too funnily enough
Hi, I was looking for around a grand for them, they are mint, I will need to check they are going to be available if you are interested as I have been asked for the whole front end, wheels, callipers the lot.
Thanks, great if you can, it would get her bike back on the road quickest, appreciate if you could let me know soonest. I'll sort out next day carriage .. .
What area are you as I do have the tool to remove lower leg if it's not seized. As I remember there was a factory recall on the right leg because they could fracture!!!.maybe your one never went back to factory if you know what I mean!
