950 Anyone Got One?

  1. I decided to reward myself with a new bike. This is dependent upon me getting unbanned by the DVLA as well as continuing to strengthen to be strong enough to manage one. I've got a ST2 and a ST3 to practice on before-hand.

My extensive, in-depth, research (on YouTube!) has led me (in a very roundabout way) to the Multistrada 950s (with Ducati accessories thrown in).

    Has anyone here got one?

  2. Don’t have one, but spent a day with a 950 whilst mine was in for service.

It was a lovely bike, good power and very neutral handling. I was really throwing it about after 20 minutes. They run out of steam but other than that, I was impressed.

  3. Thx. It looks as though it has enough power for me. With luggage, I just want to be able to cruise around 70-80 mph solo. I'll try an arrange a test ride from Riders when Im a bit nearer buying.

  4. I spent 5 days on a rental 950, a basic bike, not with the extras the new S has. I really enjoyed it . It’s what persuaded me to purchase my first MTS.

I’m now a 1260 GT which I thoroughly enjoy but tbh the 950 is probably the smart bike to buy. It’s lighter and feels more playful, it’ll still lift the front wheel under power in 2nd and 3rd. I got more out of it than my DVT or the 1260 with more time at full throttle enjoying the character of the engine.

Occasionally you might miss those extra free horses but honestly how often. I’m not a particularly quick rider and reckon I’d access more of the 950’s capability than I ever will the bigger engined bikes.

One thing I did find as big unit and 6’ 2” was it was just that little bit more cramped, I don’t believe there’s a seat height adjustment on the 950 ... one of my reasons apart from hoping to do a lot of touring to choose the 1200s

  5. Hi, absolutely new here, literally picked up my 950s today absolutely bog standard save the touring pack. A few observations:

Test rode a 950 - the skyhook suspension is amazing; the 950 felt harsh - use the 950s in touring it feels plush, in Sport its a stiffer bike altogether, in both settings its very composed.

Compare the 950 to the 1260 - yes the numbers say its down on power, but you can still get a wriggle on; probably as much fun as the bigger bike on the road

Seat height - you have a couple of options for the vertically challenged - lower seat unit (couple of hundred quid) or remove the seat raisers (see P 294 of the manual) or a higher one for the loftier among us.

Plus of course the better lights and quickshifter....you know they're essential!

  6. @PerryL , One of the guys who comes out for ride has a 950 base with a few bits of farkle, thing is tho, he's not the biggest of fella's and by far the heaviest either, in fact he looks like a monkey on a mule, by god he can get a feckin shimmy on, So him on his and me on the DVT probably the same PTW ratio.
Summery it's a capable machine chief. :upyeah:

  7. I can’t really believe I’m going to use this reference, but it’s not the size of your...... it’s how you use it

  8. The short in the leg types can get either bike to a manageable ride height easily provided you get the semi active suspension and play around with the settings. You can even put one of the options into ultra low at the rear by setting the rear preload to 1 to make getting on and off a doddle. Select this mode before stopping to get off then de-select it when back on board ready to go.

  9. Or to put it another way.
Its not what you ride - it's how you ride it !
