1100 Multistrada To 1100?

  1. My old 900 monster would struggle against big japs, the 999 never did, the 1200s Multistrada is so capable.
I find i ride the 999 much faster than the Multistrada, it's far more comfortable at higher speeds, but throttles go both ways on all bikes.

  2. Well I own Sport 1100. I must say it is a naked bike, so that would be your consideration over speed. You won't see to much difference acceleration but having been wrapped in that fairing to exposed upright is the shocker. If you do go for Scrambler. I would get stock sport and use the money to alter to your own pro looks. I have and it was still £500.00 cheaper.

  3. Hi DS, sorry for delay, I missed your post, mainly the same reason as you did, I am really impressed with the Handling, it’s much better than my other bikes, I will miss that , and the comfort, but I have finally come to realise that it’s just too powerful for me :), I know it’s down to how far you twist the throttle, but I find myself having to constantly hold back, at 58 I’m gradually becoming a “bimbler”, also I’ve got 5 other bikes and a standard sized garage, if I lose one bike I can directly get 5 out of the garage without much bother, with six I have to roll one out to make space to get another one out, really winds me up not being able to get to the bike I want directly!!, Obviously as soon as it’s sold I’ll want it back though:)

  4. So I test rode a few bikes today, Speed Triple RS (to firm), Monster, Speed Twin and a “base” Scrambler 1100.

The Scrambler was a revelation. It’s how I wanted the a Monster to feel, raw, noisy, fun and agile. I was having bags of fun even though the rain was belting it down. Top bike for B Road fun and town work. I was having fun at 40/50/60mph where my Multistrada needed 80+. The Scrambler covered ground as quickly as I wanted it to.

    I think I’m converting.

  5. Britain's roads are so crowded now that ultra powerful bikes are becoming less and less relevant.

I sold my Multi last year and bought a Street Triple RS. The light weight (its lighter than pretty much every performance bike on sale) and agility of it are a revelation. I loved every minute of my 6 years of Multi ownership but it was time to try something new and I am glad I did.

  7. So I’ve ordered an 1100 Sport Pro, for delivery mid July. Not many reviews about (except some Italian ones), I presume because of Covid.
Anyone actually seen one in the metal yet? Or bought one? The more I read about the 1100 the better I feel about my choice.

  8. im thinking of doing exactly the same move. Will be keen to hear your experience. The dealers don’t seem to have any 1100s in stock.

  9. Sadly it’s another 4 week wait. But once I have it, I’ll update you with my initial impressions.

  10. Picked up my 1100 Pro Sport today and racked up 200 miles. It’s brilliant. Reminds me of my last Monster (M1000 Sie). Handled amazingly, very nimble. It’s a comfy riding position, slightly sportier than the Mutley. Suspension isn’t as plush, but I intend to dial it down some (whole point of buying Öhlins). Sounds like a boss!

    So far, so good.....

  12. Very nice indeed. Do you notice the difference in power? The reviews say the torque is really good. Am interested in what you think given you're coming off the multi.

  13. It’s probably too early to say definitely, as I’m still running it in. But from 0-70 it’s a proper missile. I think it’s geared low as I’m 4-5th where the Multi was 3rd really. It feels a match for the Thruxton or R Nine T, despite the figures saying otherwise. It feels geared for our speed limits, the engine providing its best up to 80. After that the wind blast takes over.

I easily kept up with two well ridden Tiger 1200s over the Horseshoe Pass yesterday, a typical tight Welsh A Road. I think if it’d been a bigger, faster, flowing road they’d have cruised off to 100. But I’ve learned to value my licence recently and am looking for fun up to 80.

Did I mention it looks badass and makes you feel like Neo from the Matrix?

If you still think the original 900ss or Monster are cool, you’d love this.

  15. You really need to think about hope you’ll use it. If you tour, track or do hundreds of miles on the motorway, I’d say it’s not for you. 80% of my riding is commuting through a busy city centre. The rest is a mix of A and B roads in Wales . What do you do?

  16. Commuting and the occasional ride out on a Sunday morning. I bought the Multi when I was doing motorway miles but that stopped when my parents passed away.

  17. It’d be interesting to see a Dyno comparison for the 1100 and a Mutley. I suspect up to 6000 rpm there is little in it.
Try riding in urban mode for a week. If you can handle that, you’d not miss the 1200.

  18. Lord F... Looks fantastic. I got mine mid June from Peterborough and am loving it. I came from a monster 797 and the increase in torque is really noticeable even when taking it easy while running in. I went for the type approved termi as I feared the stock exhaust would be too quiet with euro 5 but from your comments about it sounding like a boss I needn't have bothered.

The suspension felt more supple compared to my monster. But I can imagine the multi was way more plush.

I'm just not super keen on the Matt black look but went for the sport pro to get the ohlins, bar end mirrors etc. I'm toying with the idea of getting the tank painted or wrapped in a metallic dark blue to go for a Dark club Italia look. Or may be a top 2/3 blue and bottom 1/3 black with a white pinstripe ala the old Ducati 750 GTs.

  19. I’ve never had a matt finish before and am not a fan usually. But it does look mean. There’s so little to paint/wrap it’s something I’d consider in the future. Have you played with the suspension at all?

  20. Ideally I want a solo seat with a passenger cowl. And then paint wrap the tank cowl and front mudguard. But I'll leave it as is for a year or so. Like you the Matt black is growing on me.

I haven't touched the suspension at all. It's felt spot on for me riding solo and not too bad with a pillion. Will have a play around over the summer though. The manual tells you how to come back to standard so we can always reset it easily if we don't like the adjustments.
