Paypal Scam

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by PerryL, Jul 22, 2020.

  1. Paypal have p1ssed me off too many times and so I closed my account a few weeks ago. I only had the account because you used to have to have a Paypal account with Ebay. You don't any more because eBay must of realised what a PIA Paypal is, and so I can just use my debit card now. Simple.

Since I shut my Paypal account, Paypal have been spamming me endlessly, saying I MUST have my Paypal account in order to keep breathing - and other rubbish.

Tonight, I got another email, purportedly from Paypal, telling me to log into my non-existent account.

As I no longer have a Paypal account, I looked a bit closer. It's choose you scam time - either the genuine Paypal scam or imitators.

If you are still unlucky enough to have a Paypal account then beware!

  2. You should be reinstalling your operatiing-system at least once a year. When was the last time you did this??

There comes a point when you have to acknowledge that some part of been scammed. Is your own misguided belief that you're doing the right thing. When in fact your falling for a con'

Paypal isn't paying its fair share of taxes, however its one of many e-banks. Plenty more to choose from'

  3. To be fair to PayPal, it's not them sending out the spam emails.
There are obvious signs in the emails - for a start anything that starts with "Dear valued customer" instead of your name, or look at the email address it came from.
NEVER click on links in emails that purportedly come from any source you don't recognise - if you have any doubts go and log into your account as you would normally to check.
    Stay safe...

  7. No, but I'm not Paypal. They are big and ugly enough to take it.

But I should be more sympathetic to a business that is dying....

  8. It doesnt matter if you like or dislike them, how big or small they are etc etc . Its not their fault.

  10. So far I haven’t had any issues with PayPal
They were very helpful when I bought shoes from a so called English site but turned out a Chinese teenagers site that had an English address
PayPal refunded me the £15 fee of sending said crappy shoes back £24.99 worth a £2 if that because the teenager refused to give me my money back if I didn’t send them.
PayPal was very helpful guiding me through the procedure

Any emails purporting to be from them I send to spoof@paypal
I can tell it’s not from them looking at the senders address

I would rather use PP than my debit card that could easily be emptied in the wrong hands

Touch wood so far so good

  11. 1200 quid worth of Ryanair flights all refunded within 14 days of canceled flights all my mates are still waiting on refunds from march, paypal gives the company the rite to reply and if it doesn't happen in 14 days the money is sent back to you !! Same with hotels giving you crap that oh well we are at half staff blah blah PayPal just takes the money off them ! I prefer PayPal to cards better protection for me

  12. I've had no hassle with Paypal in what must be 10 plus years. My account was hacked the once, but an easy phone call later, the money was reversed and my password shored up. I would not buy from overseas unless I could use Paypal. As the post above, its great if something goes wrong ... and it has a couple of times. I get refunded if the seller tries ripping me off. Mainly Chinese sellers it has to be said

I never like putting debit or credit cards online unless its someone like Amazon. I even go the lengths of renewing my cards every few months to stop anyone grabbing details on unknown 'auto-renews' I may have running.

  13. Paypal come through everytime provided you adhere to the rules. Great protection for buyers. Easy to use web site. Good customer service department too. Sometimes the refunds are a little slow. Overall I'm a very satisfied customer.

I have heard grumbles and moans about PP but never any details so perhaps there are issues on occasion, but none I know about.

  14. Well, the generally good reviews here have changed my mind about Paypal. Yes, you can't blame Paypal if scammers are impersonating them. And it is an easy way of sending or receiving money. I think that I have sold/given away stuff here but the receiver had to send me postage. So, mind changed and I'll start again with Paypal.
