2018 Multistrada 1260S runs great, except after riding a long way, 100 - 120 miles, when I slow to a stop sign or turn into a gas station, it dies... No warning, just idles down and dies. I've used various gas stations to fill up, so, its not bad gas. Engine temp is usually 170... It will idle fine. when I open the gas cap, there is no built up pressure. It will also restart right up. Anyone have any ideas?
My mates 1260 had a similar intermittent fault which was finally diagnosed to the hands free system which was changed under warranty as it was only 3 months old
I thought that I would post what kind of a response I got from a really good local mechanic, and a parts guy from a Ducati shop... The Parts guy said that this has actually happened to him. It seems that if you overfill your tank (top off), and gas gets into your canister, it will mess up your canister, and cause the random engine dying. I'm not a mechanic, or engineer, but I do trust the guys that told me this. The fuel lines that attach to the canister are held on by a Oetiker Clamp or single ear clamp , and you will need a tool for Ear Clamps, and are a bitch to get off and on without the special tool (thank goodness they are relatively inexpensive.) It also seems that this is relatively easy to repair, so that's a good deal... simply replace the canister and clamps.
You're not supposed to... But, there's probably not many bikes running around here with the canister on them. Some states do emissions inspections, and if you don't have a canister, No sticker for you!!! .
