Monster 800 clock swop

  1. My wife has just brought a 53 plate 800 monster .. now she wants to change a few bits on it to make it personal ... we have already got a new headlight unit for it , now she wants digital clocks . Ive spoken to a local dealer ( not very helpfull) and have worked out the immobiliser is built in the clocks .. will any of the ducati digital clocks fit onto her bike either straight swop or with work ?

  2. That's not quite right but almost there. The immobiliser is built in to the ECU, but that is tied in to the clocks and a chip in the key. When you put the key in, the ECU checks whether it is the correct key and also whether they are the clocks that were mated to the ECU when first installed. If all is ok then the bike is allowed to start. The idea is to make it difficult/not cost effective for the bike to be stolen and broken for parts as the cost to replace all three components is about £800. The downside is that if you wish to swap or replace clocks then it wont work.

In the past there was a work around using a chip from FIM which overrode the ECU and worked like a glorified Power Commander, but unfortunately they are no longer availalble and if you do pick one up second hand there will be limited support available for setting it up.

  3. i have been told ( by a ducati shop ) that i could have the ecu flashed rendering the immobiliser useless .... this could be a possibility if i could find any other clocks to fit the bike ....

  4. Disabling the immo does allow 749/999's to run with no clocks fitted. So this may work for your Monster. There are additional considerations like rpm and speed signal. You might want to run your question by the Desmo Due racers on the Ducati Sporting Club website as there are people on there running M620's that use the same ECU/Dash set up (try asking Skidlids on there).

  5. cheers just joined and msg'd him

  6. Same principle as the 749/999 in that you can disable the immobiliser and run any clocks you like.
I believe that Kev (Skidlids) has fitted a 1098 dash to his!
