Long time listener, first time caller - Today I test road the 950s and was pretty impressed (except for a false neutral between 5th and 6th at "motorway speeds" which was a little scary and a couple of occasions where i could not get back to 1st at the lights without a lot of work). Currently on a KTM 1190 which i find a bit cumbersome so was looking for the smaller of the two options, but the dealer says the 1260 is even better and you don't notice the extra weight. I will of course go and test ride the bigger bike but would be interested in the thoughts of the forum. Thanks in advance
Interested to read how you get on. I was knocked off my Monster in March 19 and I am currently banned by the DVLA - for what I am trying to establish but it is part of an ongoing battle that I am having with them. I could/may write a book on that! Anyway, when I get some compo and my licence back, I was going to buy myself another bike (I've still got two Ducatis left!). As I have little else to do, apart from physio and physio and physio, I have looked into rewarding myself for dealing with all of the sh1t that I've dealt with, by buying myself another bike. I researched the Multistrada 950s and 1190s, as well as the KTM Super Duke and KTM Super Adventure s, with the Moto Guzzi v85 TT Travel as well! I choose a new favourite every day and still haven't made up my mind. That's why I am interested in what you decide.
Not quite a direct comparison but for what it's worth, I tried the 1290 Adventure and the Multistrada 1260S. Decided the Ducati was a bit smoother and easier to ride. Caveat - both test rides were in the wet. A friend who sells KTMs and is familiar with the range had a go on my Multistrada and thought the same thing. He's tempted to go for the 950S as it's probably a bit more nimble. That seems to be the perceived wisdom but try both for yourself if you can. I've had a few false neutrals and the quickshifter was clunky at first but it seems to have bedded in over the first 1500 miles.
Not ridden the 1260 but had a 1200 and now a 950S, for me I find the 950 the better bike. Very nimble, quick enough for my needs / wants. I get why some people prefer or feel they need the extra power but it doesn’t feel much slower up to legal limits. I also found the odd false neutral but with nearly 4K on it now they have disappeared and the gearbox is very easy to find all gears inc neutral. Be interested to hear how you find the 1260.
I have just sold my standard 1200 DVT and have test ridden both the standard 950 and the 950S. The standard 950 has softer suspension and slower steering than the 1200, given that the 1200 has a 17 inch from wheel as opposed to 19 inch on the 950. The 1200 steers like a supermoto in comparison. The 950s handles a lot better with its skyhook suspension. Both 950 models have plenty of real world performance and are comfy. They are a bit taller than the 1200 due to the wheel size. used to get a false neutral on my 1200 on 5th gear if I wasn't quite firm enough with the change. I didn't notice this on either of the 950s I rode. I am looking at a few options, but will probably end up with a 950.
Really appreciate everyones thoughts. Thanks. OOI what sort of "deals" can be had? What sort of discount of RRP?
